Default Can't decide...

I'm fixin to buyan Encore barrel in awhite tail cartridge. I have my eyes on a 26" 264 Win mag barrel. I hand load and I think that would be a dandy. My delima is that its price is up there with the cost ofthe brand new 28" pro hunter barrels. For the same money I could get a 28" PH barrel in basically any of the"deer" calibers.
I/E... 270 or 25/06 (the other 2 calibers I'm interested)

Oh yea, I have a 300 win mag, so I'm not interested in anything close to that.

I'm looking for opinions here! Fire away!!!!

LTB...
How about a .260 Rem? The .264 Mag is an excellent cartridge, but, the .260 has many options and is proving itself to be quite reliable in the 1000 yd competetions! Rate of twist is all it takes to make this baby be multitalented....

I don't think it matters which one you go with. All are adequate cartridges. 24 and 26" barrels seem adequate for all other guns, so I wouldn't worry about the extra inches of bbl. Just get the cartridge you favor

Other than the obvious implication of your handle, "lovethebigguns", I don't understand why you would want another "Win Mag"cartridge for whitetails when you already have the 300WM.

.264 (6.5 Swede / 260), 270, 25/06, and I would alsoadd in7mm-08.....all are excellent for whitetail out to 400 Yds even in a 22" barrel, and you would pick up some extra velocitywith the26" Or 28" barrel. The 6.5, 260 & 7mm-08would bea little easier on the shoulder. Since you are talking Encore, action length doesn't make a difference.

My personal preference would be 7mm-08.

I agree. I would get the Pro Hunter 270 or 7mm-08. The 264 is pretty much a duplicate of the 300 WM for uses.
