NEF VS. Thompson

RE: NEF VS. Thompson
I have eight NEF rifles. There is nothing in the world wrong with them. I have also had the Encore and contender. They may be a little better finished gun and have a better resale but not three times as good. For 200 bucks you can expect to have a few drawbcaks but they are getting around to correcting the few little bugs. The 223's shoot very well as do most of the low pressure rounds. You may have a little extraction trouble with the high pressure cartridges. They are fixing this by replacing the ejector with a Mechanical extractor so this problem will be solved. With the right loads, they will shoot along side most bolt action rifles. I have the 26 inch barreled 280 and it shoots 1 1/2 or better groups. I have the 44 Mag, 223, 243,7MM-08 , 280, 45-70, 45-70 Buffalo classic with 32 inch barrel, 22-250, 357 Mag and 12 Ga. All the high pressure rounds seem to shoot the lighter bullets per caliber best. You should have no problem getting good hunting accuracy.

Sweet ! I am looking forward to trying this thing out in a week. I wanna do some deer hunting with it. I just got some super X 100 grain loads and I plan to re-load. Any suggestions? EJ

Try the 100 grain Federal ( the cheap ones) my sons .243 will shoot a 3 shot group at 50 yards you can cover with a dime (almost the much sought after clover leaf)
BTW the 50 yards is my limiting him until he gets more experience not the guns limits

Mine shoots 100 grain Corlokt pretty well. I have a couple boxes of shells loaded up but have not had a chance to get to the range to try them out. If some of these loads work out real well, I will post the load on here. I need to send one of my recievers in for a 30-30 barrel. The 30-30 with Nosler Ballistic tips, performs well.

Yeah, I think I might wanna get a 270 barrel for this thing. At the tune of 82 bucks, you just cant beat it! I cant wait to re-load for this as well. What would you think, use this 243 or my 30-06 for mulie? I have never shot a mulie but I hope to this year. I know theyre bigger than whitetail. EJ

I love my NEF!
When you send it in to get a barrel fitted, you can request a trigger job for free too.
You won't find "magnum" barrells for the NEF. (I don't care, anyway.)
You can pick up some cheaper barrels on ebay(especially shotgun barrels). They might fit, and if they don't, 'do it yourself' methods are on the net, and they look pretty easy. If that makes you nervous, a gun smith could do it pretty inexpensively.

I just pick up a handi in 30-06 great little gun for the money $179.00 out of bass pro shop in Myrtle Beach.I have to say the above groupe at the 100 yard target speaks for itself.
I found the only problem so far was trying to but a scope on the Handi,I had to go for a set of (high) waver rings to clear the hammer>I also found that you must snap the action close otherwise I had a round fired open the break action on me by it self.

Plenty accureate for me! I will be shootin mine this saturday for the first time. WOW! Yeah, I had to get weaver high mount rings as well, but I had em spare from the last rifle, the 7400 remington in 270. Glad I hung on to them! I stuck a cheapie scope on the little NEF, I might buy a better one as money allows. EJ
