Heh, heh.

200 yard shots aren't the ones that worry me. It is the close thickets and double canopy forest where I may not have much time to draw a bead. (That's why I don't go North with anything under .44 caliber.)

Now, I have heard from credible people (who sounded sober at the moment) that the 223 Remington has been used by eskimos on the big bear, and poachers have used same in Africa on elephants. (Actually, I heard this stationed in Saudi in the MP battalion.) So, maybe now is a good time to ask, where do you place the shot, if you know?

The question was a Bear comming at you. Now you are saying your 243 will run around and get behind the bear and shoot him behind the ear?.Now I see why nobody can get through to you.

Well, in that case I guess you would have to shoot it in the eye. When I was a kid, I once killed a rabbit with my pellet gun that way. It was an ugly death, but I remember telling everybody how good my pellet gun was on rabbits.

In the case of a grizzly, there might be one ugly death, and smokey with an eyepatch.

the behind the ear shot was placement for an elephant. A shot on a bear can be placed anywhere in the head. no animal can take a rear brain shot placed behind the ear, from just about any high powered rifle. elephant, rhino, hippo, cape buffalo all will succumb rather quickly.

Don't know where this elephant came from. Thought the question was about a charging
bear. [:-]
Anyway, lookout folks, the 243Win. has apparently just been promoted to the status of a
dangerous game rifle. Just shoot 'em in the head!

Why any would want too shoot dangerous game in the body is beyond me. I would put it where it counts. but I guess when your infatuated with double barrell 500 gr 40calibers, the accuracy isnt there to put it where it counts.

I asked about the elephant. When I was stationed in Saudi, I had heard M16's were used to poach elephants in Africa. Move over Bell!

You sir are correct. The 7.62x39 is responsible for more elephant kills than any other rifle.
a 125 gr bullet with a velocity of 2365 and 1552 lbs of energy at the muzzle. Doesnt take much with a properly placed shot.
