Virgina 7. This is an excellent table and SHOULD help explain why things work as they do. ALL THE ELEMENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PAINT A FULL PICTURE OF KILLING POWER. The 243 used within its effective range both in yards and in critter size, has its place. I just don't go to that place much. Good luck to those who do.
Thanks. I thought it seemed pretty reasonable. Too many factors involved in killing big game to simply attempt to quantify it using any formula (as Hawks points out in his article too), but it gives some reference point based upon those things we can determine.
For those folks like Zrex, nothing is going to make any difference to them. Heck, in their world the earth is still flat! [] No matter the "experts" and/or those with far more experience such as Hawks, Taylor, Aagaard, Keith, O'Conner, Boddington, etc., etc.
As far as Zrex is concerned, if the 243Win. ain't at the top of the hit parade, then they don't know squat.

Why do you keep insisting that I'm saying it's the best.
I'm saying it's a comparible cartridge, but you act as though I were using a 22LR.

The world is flat. I've fallen off a couple times and it is really nasty out there.

When my son asked me to buy him a deer rifle for the Missouri season, I was strongly tempted to get him a .243. For the ranges he shoots, I think it would be great. But as Santa was thinking about what to get, I figured I couldn't be sure where he might be hunting 20 years from now. Thus, I got a .308. When in doubt, I go for a bigger wound channel.

I will kill any game on the planet with my .243. Including your polar bear. I wouldnt be in the predicament of having the bear charge cause I wouldnt have wounded him with your 45-70 from 50 yds away. I would have busted that bear in the noggin from 200 yds away. Dropping him in his tracks.

Nah, again, just a few cards short of a full deck!
Lights are on, just no one home!

Polar bear? Let's see now, big teeth, big claws, maybe 1500lbs. +/-, and could be a mean disposition.
So, 243Win., 24cal. with 100gr. bullet doing maybe 2900-3000fps........ ?

Or, 45/70, 45cal. with 350gr. bullet doing about 2100 - 2200fps! (Buffalo Bore or Griz ammo).

Hmmm, what to use? Decisions, decisions.
