Got a st. croix 9wt rod with an okuma 8/9 reel. That one can handle the bigger trout/bass or bluegill and small trout

Out of curiousity, what makes fly fishing an art?

The larger question would be: What do you consider art? Ask 20 people and you will get 20 different answers. In my opinion, the very basics of art are being creative and expressing yourself. Well fly fishing has the creative side I think more than any other. Just the motion of fly casting is a sight. The gazillion options when it comes to fly tying, an art within itself. I think it is getting closer to the sport of fishing myself. A lot more matching the hatch, technique, etc. (in my opinion) than regular fishing. Of course, this is all my opinion (and countless others). I'm sure yours may vary and do many others. Thats why fishing is so great. We don't all do everything the same and that opens the door for always learning something new!

I think of all fishing as an art. Its all about learning the fish, knowing the situation, and performing when the time comes.

All fishing is creative, whether a limb as a rod and grandma's sewing thread as line, a spinning rod, or throwing flies.

You can make your own cranks, tie your own jigs, or create your own flies.

I guess I wouldn't disagree with you on that one buckhunter! Fly fishing is just aesthetically pleasing (artful) to me. I like to watch it more than any other kind of fishing. Beauty and art is in the eye of the beholder. But I am not saying all fishing isn't art, because they are!

Thanks, and glad to be here. Quick question for the experienced users. I have been on some other forums for probably a year or two that use the same software as this one. On my profile page, I do not see any way to upload my avatar or a signature pic. Is there a reason I am not able to do so? Any way to change it if there is?
