The absolute easier way to go catch bass is getting either a spincasting or spinning outfit. Get some 4" senkos. Put a hook right through the center of the worm. Cast it out, let it sink. Lift your rod tip, reel in the slack, and let it sink again. when you feel anything different, set the hook.

I'd say tossing a spinner/crank or even a grub is easier than wacky styling a worm/plastic. He'd learn the basics of what a strike feels like, practice good hook setting, and get the hang of landing fish consistantly. This tactic would work great now that spawning is just a few months away here in the northern states.

Tough call...it appears he already has some fish catching ability. HOwever for easiest to hook and not lose no doubt ..a spinner bait or crank bait is tops. If he were in Florida it doesn't take long to learn how to use a rubber worm. ANY TACKLE SHOP OWNER CAN SHOW HIM HOW TO TEXAS RIG A WORM.He may want to let us know what kind of water and which state he is fishing from.

Maybe so, but on the 100 or so lakes I've fished in the last 2 years, wacky style plastics have outproduced those other lures 2 to 1.

Great info from Chuck. One thing I would say is join Bass. The magazine is really great and tells about some of the latest techniques and methods as well as stories from the pro's. Well worth the 25 bucks a year to be a member. Keep it simple and expand on what works and keep trying on what doesn't. Flipping was one of the things I didn't really take to without a lot of practice. Most of my fishing is smallies and when I fish for largemouths flipping worked OK.

Thanks Islander.I actually used to think flipping was very silly and a waste of time. LOL You certainly can't argue with success though. I've seen lot's of men pull huge fish out of cat tails. Gettnig hits is easy...Setting the hook is still a skill I'm working on. One day I can get nearly all my bass and then another time I nearly miss them all. Because of our abundance of cat tails and brush piles most Floridians flip. When I first started there was a pro fishing in back of me and caught two 6's. I've learned to drop that worm in every little hole possible. AND FLIP SLOWLY Do not be in a hurry when flipping.

In Maryland and Virginia I used Rapalas and Inline Spinners.{Mepps Black Fury, Mepps Comet , Rooster Tail } and Lazy Ike. However Florida is full of weeds and structure so rubber worms, weed less spiner baits and top water is tops. For those who don't like chucking lures buy a dozen of wild shiners. Expensive but very productive.

Ah flippin'. Its all in the equipment. I personally cant set the hook worth squat when I'm flipping unless I'm using a 7'6" team diawa rod - it has a good amount of tip flex to help protect that 20 lb line MINIMUM that I use. Just cross its eyes. Its pretty funny to hook a 3 pounder while flipping, and set the hook and land him in under a second without touching the reel

I tried spinning tackle about 10 years ago and quickly learned that if I wanted good hook ups with plastics, I needed to use a baitcaster.
