Trout are defintely biting
My algebra teacher from last semester has been bugging me for about 2 months to take him out trout fishing around this area, as he's not from around here and i told him we own a couple of streams around these parts. So i took him down to our land in Grant County, WI, where we own the main spring to a trout stream. I really didnt want to mess around with flies so i just bought a dozen nightcrawlers and a couple rooster tails and we called it good. i had seen alot of trout in the stream during turkey season, but was disappointed when i saw the cattle in the creek which muddied it up good. i really didnt think we'd catch any. We slowly approached the cattle and they moved for us. started fishing in a slow moving pool, no luck. saw a muskrat and spooked a half dozen a mallards. after moving downstream a little ways, i popped a half a crawler over the bank and we started nailing them. between us, we caught 20 trout on nightcrawlers. only one swallowed the hook. mixed bag of brookies and browns. the biggest brookies were 12", the browns were around 14 1/2". i kept 3 for the pot and am eating one right now. darn good wild trout, none of the stocked stuff you see in heavily fished streams. this stream probably only gets fished but once or twice a year.
