NEF Ultra Slug Hunter in 12 gauge

RE: NEF Ultra Slug Hunter in 12 gauge
Although I don't own one,I have shot quite a few. They are in the top of class when it comes to accuracy. If cost is an issue they are #1. Like all rifled slug guns, expect to do some work at the range with expensive sabots if you really want to ring the accuracy out it.
My biggest issue with them is the weight. They are fine for sitting in a stand. However I like to stalk on occasion. I could not imagine spending a few hours carrying one. On another post someone stated that there is a weight in the butt stock that can be removed. I am not sure this is true, actually I think it unlikely. It does not really matter because if that weight is necessary to keep it balanced the way it is designed you would not want to take it out anyway. The gun would be so barrel heavy as to be laughable.
If you would consider other guns here are the best...Tar Hunt 2000$...Browning A-bolt 1200$.....Savage 210 350$....Mossberg 695 200$...Marlin Slugmaster 180$.
I have shot every one of the guns mentioned so far except for the Tar Hunt and the Marlin. I currently own the Browning A-bolt and a Savage 210. I have found that the best all around value/accuracy is the Savage 210. With a rest I can get 1in groups at 100yds with Remmington Core Lokt ultras with this gun.
Here is my current set up on the Savage...

Ultra Slug Hunters shoot exceptionally good groups. I've had my 12 gauge deluxe since the 12 gauges came out. I have so pleased with it's performance that for my oldest boys first deer gun (we're shotgun only here) you guessed it, we got him a 20 gauge Ultra two years ago.
By the way, H&R (Harrington & Richardson) make the Ultra. NEF has another cool one though with a rifled barrel and rifled sight. The Ultra comes with no sight just a scope rail.

i have one a h/r ultra 12 and paid only 200.00 for it,the reason there so accurate is that they have a 12 ga bull barrel yes bull barrel but the downfall is there kinda heavy though.but very accurate for the money..single shots another downfall

the ultra slug hunters do have a bull barrel on them. as far as the weight, there is a 2 lb weight in the rear stock that comes out and does not give any more recoil and does not affect the accuracy of the gun. i have one friend that bought the tracker 2 in 20ga and had it drilled and tapped and put a scop on it who shoots deer at 160+ yards. my other friend bought the ultra slug hunter in 20ga and shoots deer at 160+ yards. the difference between the tracker2 and the ultra slug hunter is that thetracker 2 doesnot have a beavy barrel, comes with rifles sights and does not have the weight in the stock. the ultra slug hunter comes with the weight and a scope rail. if you are looking for a good sabot slug, shoot lightfields. they are awsome. good luck on finding a gun and take a good look at the 20ga. you dont reallty need a 12.

I have an ultra slug hunter deluxe that has the laminated stock on it, and a bushnell 1.5-4.5x scope and millet rings and shoots very well with winchester BRI sabots, if i remeber right it was right around 1.5-1.75 inches at 50 yards...I love mine, and it is very reliable

I own one also, the most accurate shotgun I've ever owned. 3 inch groups at 150yards with lightfields exp. They may be cheap but they shoot better than a 500.00 shotgun. Yeah the one shot is a problem, but if your good how many do you need to kill a deer. GIT-R-DONE

the single shot aspect is not a problem. my buddy shot 2/3 does in a group before he called my father on the radio and could have shot the last one. all out of my stand. i cut my thumb on a table saw and could not hunt for a week. wasnt hunting at the time. son of a gun shot 2 deer out of my stand. danm[&o]
