Has anyone actually chronographed factory 180g loads? I've read that they actually chronograph about 3100 fps. How about hand loads? Are you able to get to the advertised velocity and maintain moa accuracy? I've contemplated picking one up but doubt whether it will actually shoot better/faster than a 300wby. Have they been picky to load for? Please advise.

I haven't shot any factory loads in my 300RUM and have been playing with 180gr Hornady SSTs and Retumbo. At 101grs of Retumbo average velocity is 3360 and 100grs is at about 3310. The acurracy is around MOA but more flyers than I want but then again I find that I am not as steady as I was two years ago.

Does 300 rum have much recoil.
Oh, SI!!

And also does it have muzzle blast
Oh, SI!!

Had a buddy who had a custom .300 Weatherby. It shot great!! He got rid of it, and bought a .300 RUM. It shot great!! He got rid of it, and got a .300 Dakota. Both the Weatherby and the RUM were better hunting weapons than the Dakota!! Also easier to get ammo and empty cases for!

Elkaddict-I have owned a 300wby mag and have chronographed several.I presently own two 300 ultramags. My own 300wby and most others topped out at about 3250fps with 180gr bullets while my 300 ultramags produce 3375fps and 3395fps with the same bullet. My two ultramags are much more accurate than my 300wby was. Both ultramags are averaging 1/2" for three shot groups with full power loads.I have only used handloads in both chamberings so I can't comment on factory loads.

you know greg, that is good comment. Never thought of it like that.

Asking how bad an Ultramag kicks and how loud it is, compares to asking the price of a Rolls Royce. If you have to ask, then you probably cant handle it

But on the other hand you got 90% of the people telling everyone how bad it kicks that has never even fired one. Word of mouth only.

I shot one with a muzzlebrake and it kicked less than my 30-06. Hearing protection is mandatory with a brake but turns a lion into a lamb.

I shot my friend's .300 Ultra, and his .300 Weathetby. Neither seemed as bad as my old .308 Norma! But the Norma had a Neidner steel buttplate! In addition, I think the Rem. Ul;tra had a better-shaped stock (no monte-carlo). It came straight back, instead of back and up! That makes a big difference in how it feels. The .300 Ultra did have recoil, but it was not bad for what you're getting, performance-wise! This is an excellent long-range performer!
