Remington 7mm Ultra Mag or 300 Ultra mag
I'm looking at purchasing either a 7mm Ultra Mag or 300 Ultra Mag. Are the Ultra Mags all they are made out to be by Remington? If they are, which would be the best choice of the two calibers. I hunt whitetails with my 7mm-08, but am looking for something that I could use out west for mule deer, elk and black bear.

I use a 300 ultra mag for elk and moose and a 7mmstw for deer, sheep and antelope. The 300 has more than enough power for elk and moose but it is not at all required for deer sized game. The 7mm will do fine for what you will use it for and will have a lot less recoil if that is a concern.

REMI, I THINK I DEPENDS MORE ON WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE, MORE THAN WHAT YOUR GONNA HUNT. CAUSE EITHER ONE WIL REMOVE THE LAST BREATH FROM ANYTHING IN NORTH AMERICA. I ALREADY HAD A 7MM REM MAG SO I GOT THE 300.

My son has a Rem .300 (700 series) that we gave him for Christmas. From everything I've seen this gun do to targets, trees, etc., if this gun can't take it down, I DON'T WANT TO HUNT IT!

You know, I was in the dilemma last year. So I bought both over the last year. I don't think the animal will know the difference between the two or a "regular magnum". I wonder what the difference in a regular and nonregular magnum are? Do the nonregular magnums not have fiber in the powder. I know I have never added metemucal to my loads in 300RUM so it must be a regular.

If your looking for a "BIG" mag. go with the .300 RUM! When you go for elk this will be the better choice...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
