Those usually end up in a bidding war. $700 isnt a terrible price but ive seen better for a SS model not long ago. A MLII in SS now usually ends up in the $1000+ range.
I do know where to find a Savage CF conversion with a Mcgowan 45. I think the guy was wanting about $1100 with a plain Jane Accustock. If i ever build another it will be with a Brux barrel.
Savage/Stevens conversions are pretty simple if you have the barrel nut wrench. The barrel swap is much easier than converting a Rem700 type action.

Luke as smokelessmz sells 209 bolt heads for the Savage short action. It also fits the Stevens 200 IIRC. Swapping the bolt heads is pretty simple too. They cost about $85
If you already have a Savage SA 4.40 action spacing/large shank you can build a pretty nice SML at a reasonable. It will compete with almost anything else you can buy.
You could always get fancy and buy a Savage Target action for under $600 if you wanted to be more unique and start off with a single shot action. The Rem700 single shot SS action is even cheaper when available. Last one i saw cost about $450 at Northland.

Ya know GM, I've been thinking (I know dangerous. Don't worry I have the smoke alarm on) I have an old Sav 10 in .308 that I probably haven't shot in 10 years. Just not that big on .308. I might just convert that puppy to a smokeless .45 1:18-1:20 twister and rather than a .209 plug, have one of those BP's that use a short case with a Mag primer. Now, with my brain already heated up, I can't think of any reason that rig wouldn't fire BH209 reliably. Can you? My big ole sausage fingers could handle using one of those case deals a heck of a lot easier than trying to finagle a primer into a BP in a bolt gun. That's the one and only reason I don't already have a bolt MLer.

No need to use the old case style with LRMPs. A module with the .473 case head size is already available and the plug to match.
Run the new barrel on until the module touches the breach plug and tighten down the barrel nut. BAM a SML is born. You can use a hand primer or any press with a 308 shell holder to prime the modules. A Savage CF prefit Brux 45cal barrel WITH the breach plug and 20 modules will set you back $660. http://www.hankinscustomrifles.com/m...rels-in-stock/
They look like this and last WAY longer than using CF cases.
And yes it will ignite BH209 just fine too.
