I just got in from killing a spike, using the 12 gauge2 3/4 Remington Solid Coppers. The slug went throught both shoulders at about 45 yards. Dropped him right in his tracks. I think you will be happy with the load you chose and sounds like you picked a great scope also. Good Luck and be safe.

You're talking about my most favorable gun in my safe.
I have a 12 Gauge H&R Ultra Slug and have never missed with this gun to date. Knock on wood.
Here is what I have done to be successful hunting in an area that allows for long range shots.
Sighting In:
I sighted my H&R in with zero wind in a vice for 3 inches high at 100 yards
At 150 yards my gun is zero -I aim dead onand am very lethal at this range.
Ammo:
I use Hornady SST's going 2000 fps with 6.5 inch drop at 200 yards.
A must have for long range shots:
I use a Nikon Range Finder. I need the range finder for shots past 150 yards when my bullet is decending. It's like throwing a baseball. Understand this gun and how it acts and you will harvest ever animal that walks in your path. It's all about confidence.
DO NOT
Do not go cheap on a scope for this gun. The H&R Ultra Slug wants you to push it to the limit. I'm running a 2X7 Leopold on mine. I want a 3X9 for it but I'm afraid to move anything.
Here is a group at 100 yards with my H&R. I took a doe at 218 yards this year with mine. Nikon Range Finder and placed the cross hairs on the spine with low wind conditions. Good Luck!!
