Been biding my time here and anxious to get serious. This Friday I head north for a week to chase moose. But when I get back, the deer hunting starts in earnest. The rut will be on full tilt about the 2nd and 3rd weeks of Nov. Archery runs clear through to Dec 10, although the gun hunters will still be out until Nov 25. Fortunately, there is some excellent bow-only areas I can hunt right through. Cross them fingers!

It's muzzleloader week in Md. Saw a bunch of does and my buddy busted one that we will make into jerky.I did'nt want to stir the woods up too much because it's one of my bow spots and it's too close to the rut.Right now,I'd rather just watch where the does are traveling anyway.
Last night,I got into another spot where I've been seeing some good deer(archery only woods).About 4pm,two good bucks were chasing a doe,and chasing her hard! One was a quality 8pt,the other one I was'nt able to get a good look at the headgear, but he certainly was a big bodied buck. The 8pt had some interest in my grunting, and the closest I could get him in was 72yds before the doe took off,and he went with her along with the other buck.
All in all,A good day in the woods, cause I've seen 5 good bucks in an area of about 100yds square over the last 4 weeks(this is a big woods).
The ruts coming,so we'll see---Good Luck Team 9...Bob

Its muzzleloader season starting tomorrow in RI for about 3 weeks on public land. I'm going to pass this year and continue to hunt with my bow. Unfortunately, family issues have kept me out of the woods lately. A deer "problem area" is being opened to archery only for the first time in November. The tree huggers are trying hard to come to a non-lethal solution to their problem, but if they are unsuccessful, I'm all set to give this area a shot. The rules are pretty wacky (no gut piles near trails, cover your deer with burlap or a tarp when transporting, etc.) Should be interesting...

Well, looks like the antis won the battle[:@] Got a voicemail from the Police that the special hunt has been suspended, please turn in your permit if one was mailed to you... Im torqued, but not half as torqued as I would have been if they waited until tomorrow to tell me. They changed the regs here, and if I don't get my ML tags before opening day (tomorrow), then I couldnt get an either sex tag for public land. I'd be stuck with a doe only tag on private land if I decided to hunt with my ML. (given that the only private land I have to hunt on in this state belongs to the gun club, that's not really too helpful). I'm gonna get my ML tags tonight just in case I wanna hunt with my frontstuffer now.

Well Carp, I spent half the day up a tree yesterday, and saw nothing but swirling leaves in the 30 mph gusts while I was getting rocked to sleep. I'm not seeing anything this year. Hopefully gonna try again on Saturday, but may bring my smokepole instead of my bow. If I do, I'll probably stay on the ground, and try to find some fresh sign and locate somewhere new to bowhunt after sitting for a while in the am. T
