I shot a excal vortex the other day at gander mountain while it was impressive I cant bring myself to sell my horton legend xt 175 to buy one. I like the lightweight of the excal and the trigger is alot better but my horton plain flat out kills deer. Maybe i'll join the excal crowd here in the future but for now ill stick with the horton.
Whats the going rate of a excal vortex around you're area? Just want a comparison.

I dialed that same bow you have in for a friend.I was impressed w/ it. If all you do is hunt deer,I wouldn't trade it in for an Excal either. Truth be known, disable the D-A-R, put a good scope on it, you are there pal.

the d-i-r is a lil screwey i keep mine set on setting 2 with the horton multi-range scope 1st crosshair is 20 2nd 30 3rd 40 suits me great off the ground.I never eventried it past 40 .It worked for a buck and doe this year so something must be right.
That bow and spitfires/rage 2 blades seem to be a good match.

Deerslayer223 - Maybe I can give you some incentive to give a Vortex a go. Before I bought I went around and read all kind of posts. Here is one rating in the Cabelas catalog:

"I bought my first horton legacy 225, it seemed fine at first, but give it about 20 shots, the string broke, and trigger was way too stiff. I called horton and sent it in, paid for the overnight back to me and it didn't come, called them and they sent me a whole brand new package. I shot this setup around 20 or so times, it hit great, then all of the sudden I couldn't keep it on my block target at 20 yards. I went over crossbow checked everything, and also changed the scope. It still fired all over the place. I returned it and bought myself a real crossbow Excalibur Vortex, and I am very satisfied. The string dampener system may look good on the horton, but it is just too new of technology, it needs tweaked a lot. Maybe the horton legacy will be a better crossbow in a few years but for now do not waste your money. Spend the extra money and check out an Excalibur. I am only talking from experience with the product."

I "had" a horton also, Nothing but problems, They want you to send it in for everything, would not even send me a string for the rope cocker, Then the bow blew apart, send it in again, could not change the string, took it to a bow shop, 15$ for labor. I would never buy another. IMO they are JUNK! Got an excal exocet 200, Just love it.

this is my second horton and ive had no trouble with either. I've had the legend xt175 for 2 years now and ive had a supermag for atleast 7 all ive had to do is normal maintenance strings serving and what not. I guess its all in what you like.

Deerslayer - I have had some time to shoot the Vortex. It is my first time ever using a crossbow but WOW is all I can say. I have not used any of the others but this CB is great. I can keep most shots with ina 1/2 dollar size pattern. I have not shot at anything past 50 yards and don't know if I will. It seems 40 yards is where the CB likes to shoot. Don't be affraid to give an Excalibur a go.
