I went out and sat in my stand with the camera on Sunday afternoon after church. The wife had plans with the kids and I thought it would be nice just to get in the woods and sit, even without a weapon. Hunting on Sundays is illegal here in VA. My Father-n-Law took a nice buck yesterday on another property and he showed a swolen neck still. I had at least 5 forks and 6 pointers around me all afternoon. they were tickling their antlers and intimidating each other. I did see 5 does and at least one buck I would have shot. He was a 9 pter, but pretty heavy. I think the so called 2nd rut is happening here in VA right now. We are having a cold snap this week and it has things heating up. I will be hunting on Wed. and will give another update.

Past weekend was one of the worst I have ever seen, so many hunters out for their one weekend hunt of the year, and you could tell the ones thatbarely have a clue as to what theyare doing.
Too bad, weather was good for hunting, but the deer were so spooked out of their minds they ran almost everywhere they went. I did not see one animal that was relaxed, most were running or atleast at atrot. Normally where I huntI'll see at least 5 or 6 deer in a day browsing along not paying much attention to anything.
I finally got disgusted at 10 AM on Sunday morning, quit hunting for the day and went to get a cup of Coffee. Best decision I made all weekend I think.

Some how i fell into a poop pit! They started logging about 200 yds. acrossed the creek south of me. Tree cutter, Skidder and a Dozer. I watched an hour after they started but nary a thing ever came out by me. All that moving and noise i finally gave it up. Of course every afternoon its always honey do's! I get so tired of that always cutting into what little hunting time i get![&o]

Well today was good and bad. I talked to the land owner that I have the trail cam set up at and he gave the bad news. He said since I had to work most of Ohio's gun season he gave permission to some of the Pumpkin fest guys to push his woods. Now, don't take it wrong, it is his woods and he can do as he likes and I can leave if unhappy so don't take this post wrong. But he told me that two nice eight point bucks were taken off the land and a small doe. I can only guess that they are the ones I have pics of and one could be the small eight I passed on several times. Kinda sucks passing on a deer hoping to let it get bigger for the next season then find out it was shot. But I am glad someone had a successful hunt, maybe they have not put many bucks under there belt and did enjoy the hunt. But any ways, it still kinda sucked to hear it. Well the good news was me and dad went over to the new swamp spot. We had a light, fresh dusting of snow so we decided to go over and give a look see on the place for fresh tracks. Well I found one set on a main trail and then me and dad just walked around where his blind was looking for any sign and just enjoying getting out. We did not intend to hunt, cause we are still trying to let the place relax from gun season, just looking about. Well we walk a little farther back and about ten yards behind me we hear alot of noise, only to look up and see a buck trying to bust his was through some of the thick swamp stuff trying to get out and away into the more open so he could run. It was kind cool knowing that the buck had to sit there and watch us for at least ten minuets before we walked past him and he jumped up. I had myCB, but he was really jumping about in the thick stuff and then when hewas out, it was a full blow sprint so I never shot. He was a nice little eight, not past his ears and only maybe G2 andG3's about four inches long, but what was nice was, he had alot of mass on him. I bet ifyou held his rack on the sides above his G2 you could not make your thumb and index finger touch around the main beam!It was sure nice seeing him! Any ways, we plan on going out next Saturday. Hope every one else is getting out!
