Hey guys I have a ton of ground venison in the freezer. I was thinking of a quick way to use it was to make jerkey. I just wasn't sure if anyone had any luck or if it was possible to make jerky using ground meat. Every recipe I have seen has called for shank meat or other solid meats. I was thinking of just picking up the Cabelas jerkey gun, and putting a few batches in the oven with some different seasonings. Can someone please give me some insight on making it with ground meat. Thanks

I've got the jerky gun, but have yet to use it. I love jerky, but I love my burgers even more.
Ps. I hope you didn't add any fat to it before grinding, then it is destined for burgers and meatloaf, NOT jerky.

we make jewrky all the time with deer/elm meat-burger. Bought one of thos ekits from wal mart -the gun that shoots the jerky onto a man whats that machine called that slowly cooks meat with hot air-man my memory..
get some jerky seasoning and mix it up with the hamburg and shoot it on the trays...use the thin setting not the round-takes too long with the round ones..
soon as i sign out ill remember what they are called...hah dehydrater-think im just another pretty face? theres a brain there too- Lol

Add your seasoning, roll it out with a rolling pin. cut it into strips and put it in the dehydrator. Couldn't be easier. The wife rolls it out between layers of wax paper.
