alum is in the spice section, comes in small boxes.(it is something the old folks used for cooking and cold sores to dry the skin.)pickling salt is the same. you can also get it in smaller packs, with the pickling seasonings and jars.
just ask in Winn/Dixie they have both.

I came up with 1 more question for you, what sort of dill should I use? Ive never grown spices before and I was looking in lowes the other day and they had about 4 different kinds of dill and I couldent make up my mind. I want to make this all from "scratch" with things I grew in my garden this year and dills the only thing I have left to plant. Thanks, sean

rusty ; be sure to keep an eye on the dill plants. there are butterfly worms that will eat it up in a few days. they are cream colored with black rings around them.
I beleve they are the sowellotail butterfly worms.they love the dill plants.

I plant dill between my tomato plantsas a trap plant for tomato horn worms They like the dill and leave my tomatoes alone. Like tree climber says swallow tail butterflies lay their eggs on it too . The catapillers are green and have yellow and black stripes around their body not lenght-wise.
