Not sure what you call them but the bows you can lock back in full draw and keep locked back and then shoot are you all against them too? Just wondering
I think you knew exactly what they are called and most likely every thing about them.

Now I don't wanrt to start talking about crossbows again, but to say that nobody is using them isn't exactly true. In Arkansas 30% of the deer killed during archery are with crossbows, so some guys are using them. What I found amazing is that in Ohio, 60% of all deer killed during archery season are with crossbows. So to say that if Maine allowed crossbows there would be no difference is not really an informed statement.
That's a good point Jay but I think if the regulations were tweaked a bit it could fly. Untilmately the number of doe would need to be limited. The regular archery tag effects hunting with a firearm and vice versa. Outside of the extended archery season you are limited one deer. With a bow you are given the option of buck or doe where as with a firearm it is buck only unless you draw a doe permit. So adding another weapon to archery it makes little diffrence except durring the extended season.
Adding another means for firearm hunters to join archery would quiet the conplaints that are causing the uproare to begin with. I think it would give the Dept of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife more management tools that could be targeted to specific areas with over abundant populations. I'm attempting to attach a deer density map to illistrate what I mean. The entire south east cost of Maine has a density of 45+ dpsm. These areas need thinning and archery (by any means imo) is the key to population control where the use of a firearm is not practical and even dangerous due to the close proximity of houses.

The image dosn't appear to be working. I have attached the link.

You can do this with the Bowtec and binary cams if you screw with the stop or twist the string. Not quite sure how you shoot it. I guess you just push the nock and away it goes.

Thanks for posting the map Adams, I found it very interesting. I'm not sure I agree with the densities in Southern Maine being quite that high, but still very interesting.

Since only 1 deer can be harvested with either a bow or gun, I can see why it wouldn't really matter what weapon someone hunted with. If you made it 1 buck with your weapon of choice you would be letting the hunter decide what weapon to hunt with. I guess as an archer you'd be giving up the extended archery season if other weapons were allowed, but attracting more hunters to the southern section to reduce deer herds would probably be accomplished. I know quite a few Mainers who hunt only with rifles who would probably pick up a crossbow and stay South to try and get that deer instead of heading north for a slim chance at a buck.

I hunt bear mostly in Maine, and every few years hunt deer at a friends place that isn't far from Freeport with a nice piece of property.

Nope Never used one and I suppose I could have looked it up on the net but I figured the description was enough. I used a bow for years and now a crossbow and if you do not believe that I really do not care as I feel I posted a legit question!

Because I can and to try something different. Even if I did not have a permit to use one I would be wanting to as I have always been interested in them as a weapon. I have shot a lot of deer some with a recurve and a lot with a compound. Since I can use a crossbow I decided to use it for something different.
