Not sure what you call them but the bows you can lock back in full draw and keep locked back and then shoot are you all against them too? Just wondering

I would equate them to crossbows. Okay with me where Xbows are legal, IMHO.

Also okay for handicaps.

Here is Wisconsin it's illegal to hunt with any draw-lock type device that will hold a bow at full draw. They're considered to be crossbows at that point. With the high let-off compound bows made today, I don't see the need for a draw-locking device so I guess I'm against them. If you still have to pull back the poundage, you should be physically able to hold at full draw for a long enough amount of time to wait for a shot to present itself. If not I believe you're pulling back to much weight

I agree booney, if you can't draw it and hold it back, then reduce your draw weight.

What ever gave you that idea? No I was just wondering since every one seems to be so dead set against the other including the moderators. In WI they shut down the idea of the Atel ??Spelling also. Now I know nothing about them either except it is a stick and a spear but for those who are into primitive hunting they claim the system works but the WI bowhunters present batted that down also. So just wondering where you all stood on this issue. It does seem funny WI allows the xbow for handicapped but not the locked bow. At least not that I am aware of. Jim

I don't see why a handicapped hunter would want to hunt with a locked bow over a crossbow. If you have an upper body injury you'd be unable to pull back the bow to lock it, if you have a lower body injury you'd be unable to stand to make most shots with the bow. Sitting shots can be made, but it would reduce the directions you'd be able to shoot greatly, or you’d have to make a lot of movement to cover the area spooking game. To me it just seems impractical.

In NH they (CB's) are allowed durring regular firearm season which is fine with me. In Maine where I hunt, there is talk of allowing them durring the archery season which I also support. I think you're missing the fact that a good majority of us approve and support the use of crossbows. Before you arrived on here we beat the day light out of this subject. Honestly the post spanned a couple of weeks and still some were not swayed. Some of us support them, some of us do not. If you want to actually help your cause you should be rallying troops within your state and make a push on the DNR to change the laws. That and only that will make them legal in your state.

I have no problem with disabled using cross bows. I feel everyone should get an opportunity to experience the great outdoors, it truely is a privilage that i'll never take for granted

Adams, with all that I hear from Maine about reducing the extended archery season, do you still feel strongly that they should include additional weapons during archery season? It seems that your season could get seriously reduced as it is, without adding new weapons.

I would think a locked bow would be a safety hazard. Without a stock or something to rest it on while it was at full draw you would have to be VERY careful of getting hit by a limb, or having the weapon push it self off of something should it accidently be fired.
