Thanks for posting the map Adams, I found it very interesting. I'm not sure I agree with the densities in Southern Maine being quite that high, but still very interesting.

Since only 1 deer can be harvested with either a bow or gun, I can see why it wouldn't really matter what weapon someone hunted with. If you made it 1 buck with your weapon of choice you would be letting the hunter decide what weapon to hunt with. I guess as an archer you'd be giving up the extended archery season if other weapons were allowed, but attracting more hunters to the southern section to reduce deer herds would probably be accomplished. I know quite a few Mainers who hunt only with rifles who would probably pick up a crossbow and stay South to try and get that deer instead of heading north for a slim chance at a buck.

I hunt bear mostly in Maine, and every few years hunt deer at a friends place that isn't far from Freeport with a nice piece of property.
