Default My hunting area has been logged out!

The 100 acre farm that I hunt has been ruined, or so I think. There is about 20 acres of soybeens directly behind the house. The other 80 acre was all very large hardwoods. Well after the amish loggers left theres nothing bigger than a 2 inch tree standing, brush everywhere, and one trail in and out. I don't doubt the deer are still there but they seem like they are going to be harder to get out. No chance for a tree stand. The most tracks I have found seem to be around the 20 foot sawdust pile they left behind. I was thinking of hollowing out the top of the pile and sitting in there. Does this sound crazy? Does anybody else have luck in these newly logged areas? If so what would you do for stand placement?

All those tree tops make perfict beding areas and the top of the sawdust pile could be a perfict stand ,maybe try a tripod stand or one of those out house or brick house type ground blind.
Just wait till next year the woods will explode with new growth and the deer will love it , you will hate it there will still be no tree stand trees and you may need to cut a path to any stand you hunt.
I hunt a over grown cattle pasture 12 big trees in 40 acers of 5 -15 ' trees , I keep 2 stands in there with 4' wide paths in the form of Xs for shooting lanes ,lots of deer and so hard to see

Like John said...this spot might not be as good this year, but just wait till next year. If you setup on it right, it will be a honey hole for years to come with all the new growth. You might have to setup a ground blind for a year or two.

Around here soon after an area has been cut or clear cut the berrys and other edibles start to really kick in an they become and very good area for the animal to eat so they are very good locations to hunt. The only problem is getting close enough without any cover

that is why there were no deer in the boundry waters in minnesota. It was all mature trees and there was nothing to eat. They wouldnt let them log it. A few years back there was a big windstorm and it knocked a bunch of trees down. Now the deer love it because there is new growth and there is something to eat.

OH bowhunter! just because it's been logged definetly doesn't mean it's ruined ,it just makes it easier for you to see them coming ,as long as the bean field is there they'll keep coming to it .These logged area's hold deer like crazy because the deer quite often use these area's for bedding ,but when it's logged they also use it for travel route's .I'd use a ground blind if there's not a tree big enough to put a stand. but your area definetly isn't ruined.
