I started with feathers and went to vanes for one night at the end of the night at the range i needed to replace 75% of the vanes. my feathers are on my arrows for about 4 months before i have to replace them (using truflight feathers-not gateway (they' re no good)). Alot of people say when there wet they don' t fly right I need to test this by dipping them in water and shooting them, someone told me as soon as you release the water jumps off from the force still need to test to see for myself. In all i beleve the only real advantage is the forgivness of feathers.......

There are many more advantages over vanes, especially when it boils down to what the critical purpose of fletching is; stabilizing the arrow quickly and efficiently for the longest distance possible without adding more weight to the shaft than necessary.

As for durability. I had several 1965-1969 era shafts with the original feather fletching still intact and looking as good as new. These shafts had been used to hunt with. Just a few days ago, I trimmed the fletching off the shafts to use the shafts for frog shooting. The glue was still solid, as were the feathers.

I use the waterproofing powder on my fletch, and the application is usually good for the entire 3 mo. 14 day season.

I never have a problem with noise when walking through the brush. I do not drag my shafts through the brush. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the only way one can tell that a vane is more durable when dragged through the brush is to drag the shafts through brush. That is bad news for any setup.

Not often. And when I do, the little bristling sound reminds me to move like a cat in the woods instead of being a clumsy oaf.
Exactly!!!!

Feathers are cool and natural. Vanes are cold and boring. A buggered up feather will shoot far better than a vane that' s been skewered by another arrow.

I use vanes because I feel that they are more durable, plus the weather factor comes into play where I hunt the most. And I use the MZE rest

I shoot Bi-Delta vanes, have for years. My setup for hunting is 2deg offset 4" hunter vane with 100 gr snuffer. this by far is the deadliest combo (IMO) 2 yellow 1 white. For my recurve it' s naturally feathers, banana cut with 100 gr snuffer.

Have a great bowhunting season
