As far as what I would have told this guy....I would have simply said thank you for calling, I will hunt this spot when and how I want since I have permission to do so. I would have left it at that.

On a side note, since it seems this guy already has a beef with you being there, make sure your I's are dotted and T's are crossed. Hunting on someone elses tags will get in you trouble real fast. Have the land owner give you the money so the tags are in your name. This guy sounds like he is going to be looking for a reason to get you out of there.
Well said that is about what i would try to do, and i would contact the Game Warden just to let him know what is going down , so that way if you do shoot a bruiser, i would take him in there with you, just for precation.

Best of luck with the property..

Isn't his business to even know who you are but for some reason he does. Was a big shooter on here awihle ago who ended up in legal trouble just because he had to make his business piblic.

Some how this guy knew how to reach you, that's not good. TMI already in my book. I wouldn't say another word about it to anybody who didn't need to know. Take your trophys and enjoy them, tell others about them and this guy may have you in court paying fines and fighting to get them back like the guy mentioned above.

I just sat through Hunter Education with my 12 year old Son and the CPO told us that Illinois law says a landowner does not have to let anyone trespass to retrieve deer if they so choose. The CPO could talk to a landowner for a hunter, but it is up to the landowner if you get your game or not. In my mind only a real tool would not let a hunter retrieve downed game.

I would have just told him OK. Build your relationship with the landowner and make him feel like he is part of your hunting. Let him get some "Skin in the Game". Buy your own tags. Park in a spot where the other landowner doesn't see your vehicle. Hunt how and where you need to hunt. Don't tell that guy a thing.
