Black Shelton took a shot like that on Bone Collectors. The thing is the deer was walking to him and was going to pass by him giving him a perfect broadside shot. Instead he stops him quarting to him about 20 yards and shoots him in the neck. He was lucky the deer dropped in his tracks but I think it was a terrible shot. I love watching the guy but I didnt agree with his choice of shot at all.
I saw that. That was ridiculous

i agree on the shot placement on that shot but if i remember wright didn't that deer drop dead where it was standing? so if u look at it this way it didn't run 30 yardsthen suffering. so thats a tuff one for me.

I can't even watch them anymore. It's like watching fantasy island or something. Just too much goofy crap. The last show I watched (don't remember which one) there was a guy that had a buck 20 yards broadside just poking around. He had about all day to shoot him. There was ONE tree about 4 inches in diameter in front of him about 10 yards. He was at full draw. Instead of waiting about a second for the buck to clear the tree, he decided to try to hug the lone tree and let it fly. All you heard was a crack and the camera showing his arrow sticking out of the tree [:-]. I just wonder sometimes.

As a hunter of any animal travis you want to take shots that give you the optimal percentage to harvest the animal. Did that deer drop in its tracks? Yeah. But will they all, or will the majority of them? No. Taking the proper shots at the appropriate angles, etc., will make it a better choice for times in the FUTURE. Sometimes you cant base whether something is right or wrong, or good or bad on one occurence. Sure that deer dropped, but the next five times with the same poor shot placement, he might run off and die and you'll never see him again.

yea it sickens me after awhile. everyone brags these deer hunters up and down like they're the best thing since sliced bread... but in reality any bowhunter could do just as well or even better if they were plopped in a stand with 160 in deer running around on the property or whatever. i was watching a dvd the other day when well known, well respected hunter shot a buck. it was quaretering straight toward him, and he must have nicked a part of one lung. stupid, when all he had to do was wait ten more seconds til it was broadside.
