I hunted solely from the ground for my first 8 years in the woods. I still have more dead whitetail from there than from the tree.

Although.. with my bum right knee.. those days are closing.[&:][:@]

You will learn alot from the ground. So much so.. that when you get back in a tree it almost feels unfair.
Thats a true statement there. I can see why hunters starting going verticle. You get away with a lot more movement out of a tree then you do on the ground. When I hunted on the ground the other day I was afraid to blink let alone breath!

I've never used a built ground blind, tent or whatever. I've killed dozens of deer from the ground. I've used depressions, stream beds, ditches, blowdowns, fall downs all sorts of natural occurances for cover. This deer was taken at 12 yards this year sitting in a shallow ditch tucked back in some brush. The exit hole was higher than the entry hole.
My closest ground kill was anice buckat 7 measured FEET while hiding under an oak tree that was maybe 5 inches in diameter..

Hunted from a tree once and will more than likely never do it again. I shot both my deer from the ground this year my buck at 12 yrds with a compound and my doe at 8yrds with a recurve. The only thing I really worry about is the wind and have cover right behind me.Its just to much of an adrenilinerush to hunt face to face.
