I'd never get bored hunting whitetails w/ a bow. NEVER.

I hunt two states regularlythat have dramatically different terrain, and I love it, and I've taken one trip to the midwest for deer and really enjoyed that as well, it was more of a DIY hunt but i saw good deer and different terrain as well.

I've also done a trip to WY for elk, mulies, and antelope, even managed to take a P&Y antelope, that was AMAZING, and I plan to do it again someday.

I guess I dont mind paying some money to have different experiences hunting, because I've seen first hand that even whitetail act dramatically different based on location.

My next trip will probably be a combo muzzleloader/archery hunt for caribou. I also have good connections for WY antelope and might take a quick trip out there soon. Someday I'd like to do another midwest archery whitetail hunt, I just enjoy every aspect of taking a hunting trip.

Id just as soon kill a 110" 4.5y/o+ NC deer as I would a IA or IL or OH, etc... 150" deer. No desire to leave the state to hunt unless I had access to land outside of the state I could hunt on a regular basis or an invite.

I will say that a guy on our board at work, an elderly gentleman of 80yrs, goes all over the world to hunt. He told me the hardest thing he ever had to kill out of all the sheep and goats in North America, bears, mountain lions etc.....was a B&C deer. That said he has one over 200" and just shot a 'small one' this year.....thought it was a 200" and ' it was only 185"....wasnt near what I thought it was"........gimme a break lol. If I had the money to do that, I might go hunt some other things in North America such as elk or pronghorn just to say I did, and put the rest of the money back into my own land in NC and see what I could grow. I do know of a free range place in NC that has an INTENSE management plan that grows them to 150s regularly, and 160s and 170s are taken each year as well. Lot of time, money, and TLC put into it, but theyre free range. I think a deer of that caliber hereis as awesome as a 180+ from the midwest. JMO. Kinda got off on a little tangant

annika....I think you're taking me too literally. I'm talking about hunting the same animals....the same ways.....in the same places....over and over again. At some point....wouldn't it become redundant (no matter your success rate)?

I see me hunting them for years to come. I also see me LOVING each year. I'm just going to have to switch things up to keep it interesting. I've already decided a few things I'm going to do differently next year on the same gorunds I hunted this year. I also see the day when I hunt a LOT more (maybe exclusively, some day) with traditional gear. Maybe switch it up from year to year? Maybe hunt deer with one....turkeys with the other? Hnt from the ground? Hunt a single deer? Hunt different species, here (coyotes/fox/etc...)?

I'm not burned out (by a long shot). If anything....with my season drawing to a close in a few weeks.....I'm invigorated! Next year (and the rest of this one) holds many "unknowns".

Whitetails in NO WAY "bore" me. Hunting them the same old way....would lead me to burn out REALLY quickly.

I guess I dont mind paying some money to have different experiences hunting, because I've seen first hand that even whitetail act dramatically different based on location.
EXCELLENT counterpont, Ed.

Jeff - I might recant my statement, the only way I think I'd ever get bored of hunting whitetails would be if I could go out and kill a mature deer every hunt. I've been bowhunting obessively for 8 years now, and feel like I've only learned maybe 10% of what I need to know... So I'm looking at atleast another 72 years of bow hunting before I get there

Also keep in mind that I live in a 'game rich' area. I predator hunt in jan, have great waterfowl hunting from nov-jan, shed hunt/scout for deer in feb/march. Fish for stripers in march-may, fish all summer, crab from jun-oct, and bowhunt from sept till jan. So I have plenty to keep me occupied outdoors right out my back door...

My thinking is....I know what Ive got in whitetails and can build off of that and try to better myself.....................hunting something else... I wouldnt know come here from sick'em. I could shoot a world record buffalo or leopard or something and not bat an eye because I wouldnt know what to expect. Sometimes knowing what to expect makes the surprise that much sweeter.

I am with the preacher on this one, hunting whitetail in the midwest is hardly the same thing as hunting them here in the northeast.I plan on traveling to hunt whitetails, but the experience itself would be worth my hard earned cash. Just to be able to see the type of deer activity I read about here would be worth it to me, never minding scoring on a nice buck.
Not to mention I have been to Africa and don't plan on going back, it wasn't exactly a pleasure vacation when I went.

I understand what you are saying Jeff about hunting the same deer and the same land and the same way....I to look for new land and new ways to place stands on existing land to keep it changed up.. I like hunting my land and have liked it for 20 yrs, but it's probably b/c I have good deer here....

I would rather hunt animals in my country that I cant hunt in my state before going overseas like Elk, Moose, sheep, goats, antelope, muleys etc...Carribou is first on my out of country list. But yeah, I would eventually like to travel overseas once Ive completed some of the above hunts and I was financially willing to spend that kind of money. I have several friends that do out of country hunts every year, and some of their hunts gets prettyexpensive after its all said and done. The basic hunts, travel costs are just part of the costs, its the other hidden costs likethe shipping of the animal back and other fees can really get you where it hurts!!
