Ryan and I are exactly on the same page with this.If you truly want opportunities at larger bucks you cannot shoot the small one's.

I still can't believe how many people care what other people shoot. It's really mind-boggling to me, and pisses me off every time I read it.

Hey Doppler,
I just checked the record books for Vermont.
Since 1914 there have been 10, thats right 10,
bucks 140" or above entered. I bet if you hunted
here, you would shoot that 80,90 or 100. I do and
that will never change; no matter how much some
one else might not like it!!

I was responding to rybohunter's first post.I don't know what you are referring to?Rybohunter/Ryan and I have the same opinion on this matter.
Ryan is from PA I am from NY,states with traditions of if it's brown it's down and where a buck prior to antler restrictions with any calcium on it's head would get shot prior to the 10 doe's it was standing with.
I struggle with these things as I do not want to impose my beliefs on others.I also know that if we are ever to see any quantity of 3.5 plus year old bucks on public land the experienced hunters who spend plenty of time hunting will need to lay off the small bucks.
It is a delicate issue obviously, thats why we have this many pages and this much emotion about it.For me as a person who hunts their a-- off every year at home to take 2.5 year old bucks it gets old after a while.I have no intention of demeaning any one and would be the first to sincerely congratulate any hunter on what they kill, with the exception of when they are stacking up the 1.5 year old bucks. That is my personal bias.
As I said I struggle with this, many have expressed themselves very well regarding folks should shoot what ever they please within the law,and I understand that.
I hunt out of state every year, and perhaps have been spoiled by the quality of hunting that is possible with better management and with most hunters holding out for an older age class of buck.

This is my annual rant to encourage game management. I see posts on here saying stuff like"Be Proud of What You Shoot" and then I see pictures of 30 to 40 year old men posing with 6 point bucks, jees, enough already! I'd like to outline an argument for game management on this thread.

Show your neighbors pictures of good bucks you are seeing, yet never talk about monster buck sightings.[
]Show them bucks you are shooting by passing up young bucks. Get them involved in planting food plots, their own or let them help with yours. Be proactive in your approach, you will get no where telling others what that they must do.Especially if its just to please you.In PA it can be very flustrating to watch a basket racked 8 point that you passed on several times heading for the boundry line,a short pause andthen asingle shot.

just because someone is 30 or 40 that means they cant shoot 6 pointers? my uncle is 56 and has never gotten a chance to shoot a buck with a bow, he would shoot a 6 pointer with the bow in a second, and be as proud as if it was a 12 point.
I say its are land and we only take a cupple bucks off it a year (if were lucky) due to work and all that.
Out of 3 or 4 weekends we go to gobow hunting, if i even get a chance at a 6 pointer being 30 yards or closer i will be thrilled.
Also when we kill does we shoot the smallest ones possible for theremeat.
