Default is setting high standards a form of being greedy

so i had about a 130"class buck at 10yds last night. is was by me for 40minutes. i opted not to shoot him for hopes of something bigger. that got me to thinking. since opted to hold out and not shoot him cause i wanted a bigger buck does that make me greedy? i don't want to be greedy but i don't want to shoot a so-so buck. he would have been the biggest buck i'd taken with a bow. i'm kind of kicking myself but it's to late now.
i know i'm gonna get heat for calling a 130" a so-so buck but that's fine.

i was hunting with a friend for the first time on his farm. he'd never shot a buck that big and i woulda felt like a jerk shooting a "big" buck the first time setting foot in his woods. plus i don't shoot a buck unless it's big enough to get mounted (a good mount is about $500) so that stops my trigger fingure pretty quick.

greedy or picky?

We don't care. The only person you have to please is yourself. Shoot or don't shoot what you want. I measure deer in pounds of meat, not inches of horn. Do what ever bust your bubble. You're not the first or the last person to let a deer walk. It happens every day, especially in big buck country. We wouldn't care if you shot him or not. IF you set your standards below the legal laws and limits... it's greedy and called poaching. If you chose not to shoot so you can see what else shows up, it's just a choice. You make yours..... we'll make ours.

Hell no that's not greedy! It's your hunt, shoot what you want. Don't shoot at something that doesn't make you happy at the time. I passed on a mid 120's buck last Thursday. I'm not greedy, I know I've got bigger and I'm willing to push the luck and see what happens. If I go without a buck again, what's new!

Good luck! I hope you get what your after. That's why your hunting to get what you want.

I personally would do the same as it is still early in the season in IA. I want to be in the stand for the rut!!! Don't get me wrong if a monster walked out and gave me a good shot, I'd drop him, but unless that happens I'll wait. I'll shoot a doe if it gets too late without a good shot at a wall hanger. Good luck!!!

Don't worry about being greedy. The only person you have to please is yourself. Still alot of time left to take a bigger buck if you wish...

Some might call you greedy, most would probably say you are un-selfish.

To me greedy is trying to shoot every and any deer(buck) you can, justso someone else doesn't get to shoot it. Buying tags for relatives who don't know an ought six from a 2 by 6 and shooting deer off those tags. That's greed.

Ive recently started to 'mature' as a hunter and let the smaller bucks walk. Its a win/lose situation. I feel great about letting them walk and semi confident that even on the small tract I hunt and 'brown it's down mentality that alot of people have around me, that Im doing some good for the herd, but saddened in the sense that I used to get all choked up and breath so hard I couldnt hardly stay in the stand when I would have a shot at ANY deer.
