Default API Treestands vs. Others(o'lman, lone wolf etc)

I have recently decided to buy a climber. I have always used a fixed stand but need more versatility next season. What do you suggest as a good quality lightweight versatile climber. I have done much research and almost decided on the API Grand Slam Bowhunter but would like some feedback before I buy it. THanks for your help.

Hunting is like life. You plan and practice thinking everything is just right and suddenly the wind shifts directions and it's all over.

I have had mine for one season so far. I love it it has put me in the right places at the right times. The chains work great but the shrink tubbing gets brittle, cracks and wears off. This has no effect on the noise level or climbing ability. I also broke the snap lock plastic clamp on the seat binder. It was 20 cents to replace at True-Value. I can not say enough good things about this stand. The cost is on the lower end of climbers and it has a great standing platform. It has given me great confidence in my hunting and the ability to move due to changes in the field. It packs up great and very quiet when walking in the woods. The seat is comfortable and works well. I love my API Grand Slam Bowhunter and will use it till it gives out or until I do. I am 6' tall and 155lbs. It is perfect for me.

You are going to probably get alot of folks that will mention the Summit line of treestands, as well as Ol' man, Lonewolf, and the Treelounge).

I am telling you now....don't listen to any of them!

I have an API bowhunter and have used it for several years now. It is great and I don't plan on switching any time soon...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Feel confident in your decision.

I use a api bowhunter its strong, easy to use, fairly lite and the open front is nice.I didn't like the hand climb feature so I made a seat for sit down-stand up climbing, now I love it..Best stand Ive ever seen..

I love my API climber. Does the bowhunter have a rail around the upper portion or is it open? If it's open, I'd go with the rail. It doesn't get in the way of your bow and gives me an added sense of security. Lean into your safety belt and thighs against the rail. Feels real secure; and it is. Also gives you a good place to sit when climbing. take the foot straps off! Catch your toes under the side rails. You'll have much better control of the bottom part and less STUFF to mess with.

Summit Xtreme...luv it. I've had two others and it is the best BY FAR. Comfortable and quiet, can you ask for anything more?

Just my two cents.

The front on the API Bowhunter is open, I use/have one. My last two deer that I shot from the API Bowhunter I shot sitting down, because movement wise, it was advantagous to do so, and I could. I added a foot rest to it which made it even more comfortable. I prefer not to put one of the seat side straps infront of the side rail so I can slide the seat back and lean against the tree. I also bolted a Kwickie clip to the side of seat portion to hold my bow quiver securely out of the way. Thus I can pop an arrow out one handed. You can sit all day in the Bowhunter. If someday want a sit&climb climber, I will be looking at API and Summit.
