To take it to the same extreme as people living in cardboard boxes.........what happens to MI's economy if baiting is allowed to continue and it contributes to the complete destruction of the deer herd?
What if there are no more deer to hunt period because deer hunting is shut down and those hunter dollars are lost completely?[:-]

I understand that, but newlaws should adjust to the economy, not the economy adjust to new laws. What I'm trying to say is, is that this is not going to make the economy any better. Everyone thinks it's up to the president to save us, but it is up to the states as well. Sure, they took a gamble, but every business is a gamble. Maybe if MI was a little better off this wouldn't bug me so much, but right now is not the time to save some freakin deer.

There are more things to hunt other than deer. And it will not wipe out the whole population.I'm sure the complete deer population is not going to wipe out. You make a good point, but I know more farmers that make an incomefrom farming than I do hunters that make an income from hunting. Do you disagree?

So should every business get to sue someone when their gamble doesn't work out? To keep this subject in MI, should Ford sue OPEC for high oil prices as Ford lost millions in SUV/truck sales? When you gamble, you win some and you lose some. The deer bait crop farmers"won" in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007. They lost in 2008.

Any business is a gamble
Any farmer that cannot sell feed corn this year at what are record prices is doing something seriously wrong.
Are deer management practices supposed to be set only by by what is good for the farmer?
If that was the case here, then it would mean open season to wipe out the herd to protect crops.
Kind of glad they look at the total picture.

But this is MI screwing over MI. Ford and GM workers got a payout--so, what about the farmers?

If the hunters leave and/or stop spending their money because they can't hunt Michigan's showcase animal there will be a lot more people hurting than farmers. You are only looking at them.
In the long run farmers will be just fine because they'll rotate to corn or beans, while the "little" guy depending on that influx of business each year shuts down because the hunter money isn't there to pay the bills.
