Earn a Buck in PA
#21
In many parts of PA many hunters feel the HR has gone on long enough. Last years Buck kill was blamed on poor weather, many know better.
If you and your land owners feel the need to reduce the doe, numbers go for it, but In many parts of the state the land owners don't believe the herd needs further reduction. And to achieve their goals they are posting their land and therefore eliminating a chance for any deer to be taken.
My suggestion is for those of you that feel it necessary to kill a doe first ,buy yourself a piece of America and do as you like, and I in turn will do the same.

Bawana....That's an inteligent outlook on doe harvests. What about VA as a "model"? They implemented it (EAB) in select counties. Would you be in favor of that?
It wouldn't bother me if it were 2 does, here, before you could earn a buck.....but the poaching would be rampant.

I think it is QUITE a bit naïve to think everyone has the ability to just “go buy their own land” to hunt on. Life is FAR more complex than just being able to tell someone to go buy their own hunting land.
SOMEBODY has to hunt the suburban areas or the deer problems would be 10x worse than the already are.
On one hand I’d like to see the deer management left more in the hands of the landowners, BUT on the flip side to that, I have absolutely ZERO faith in the average hunter’s mentality to manage the deer properly. And everything I’ve seen in PA backs that. Not that they are perfect, but I think the PGC can run things better than the moron PA hunting public.

If you feel the two doe rule would work for you then by all means do it.
But legislating what others can shoot will rarely every convert distractors to your side.
Jimmy Carter's 55 mile per hour speed limit did nothing more than convert every day drivers to criminals over night , and E.A.B. in PA will have the same results onour hunters.[
]Just like taxes, cut out the loop holes and revenue flows,if Pa got rid of half of its restrictions hunters would take care of the rest.
We haveyouth seasons, mentored kids, muzzle loader seasons ,bow seasons, rifle seasons, flintlock seasons ,late archery seasons. All of that and we get one yea "one"buck tag and some one wants to tell me when I can use it.Yea right.

Do you REALLY trust hunters and landowners more than the PGC? REALLY?
That is the definition of anarchy.

There studies show deer eat trees and bushes that make up wildlife habitat,so in turn we as hunters have been designated as the deer eliminators. On their land that a noble idea, but I bought my land for the sole purpose keeping some one from building houses and destroying the habitat.
See We both have the same goals to a point ,they hate deer I don't!
So on their land they can have the deer removed, and grow cucumber roots and many other pretty bushesbut on my land I spend my efforts making a deer havenI don't mind them eating my trees & bushes cause I have lots of em.And besidesI don't evenknow what a cucumber root looks like.

Seriously, while EAB might have a positive effect in areas like 5d, 5c, and 2b, I just don't know how it could be effectively implemented, enforced, and managed. We don't have mandatory deer check in which all states that run EAB have and need to check the does in and distribute buck tags. You would have to remove the buck tag from the license across that state adding more administration which we know the PGC doesn't handle well. Finally, the majority of hunters that hunt in the proposed EAB zones would either be up in arms over the change or just ignore it and continue to shoot 4-5 bucks a year anyway.
You definitely could not implement it statewide because it would be unfair to the majority of the state that has felt the effects of massive antlerless allotment from recent years.
I just don't see it being a practical proposition in this state.
