Wyoming elk this year
#4
I' m not sure which areas are general. I live in the Black Hills of SD and there is great elk hunting right across the state line in WY units, 1, 116, and 117. The bowhunting is exceptional, several pope and young bulls come out of there every year and the majority of the hunting is National Forest Service. I have also hunted the Bridger Teton Widerness Area but you will need a guide in there. I have some contacts around the Bighorn Mtns, (Buffalo area) also. I have no idea what those areas are.

elksniper, good for you. I hope you get a nice one. I was not so fortunate. I just talked to my outfitter and agian I did not draw in WY. Three years in a row with no luck. I wish they' d start a pref pt system in WY for Elk. I' ve got 4 pts for both Moose and Sheep, just waiting to have the time between Elk hunts to go.
Im not all that disappointed though, I' ll be bow hunting Elk in ID, Sept 24th to Oct 1st.

I noticed on earlier posts of yours, that your arrow setup consisted of Ics Beman 340s with a 4 bladed muzzy. What I was wondering,
is the muzzy 100grn or115 grn and what length is your arrow? Also what is total arrow and broadhead weight. Thanks.
I would of emailed you this but found no address.

Well I think I may have found a solution or at least Im heading in that direction. Im retired and my wife will retire in about 4 or 5 years. WY , I believe has no income tax, Cheyenne has an over all warmer climate than Milwaukee, on a scale of 100, Cheyenne has a cost of living rate of 98 compared to Milwaukee of 108. I might just move there. It' s really one of Gods most beautiful creations, the people are great and I love the hunting out there. The hardest thing is going to be getting my wife to leave the grand kids

elknut1,
I use either the 90 or 100 gr. 4 blade (which ever I can find the best deal on in the summer is what I shoot in the fall...can' t see any difference in flight)...it is a great shooting BH. Arrow length is 29" , and total arrow weight is around 435 grains. This year I' ve discovered fall away rests and am experimenting with the old skinny carbons (Easton P/C) at 495 gr. . I' ll still be shooting the Muzzy' s though. Out of 5 elk shot, I' ve never had one not pass through. In fact, in all but one case, I found the arrow FARTHER away than I have found the elk!!!!
Logs,
If you want to retire to a nice place in WY, look into the Pinedale area. It' s about an hour drive to some of the best elk hunting and trout fishing in the world. I personally want to retire to Cody!!
