Bob, I don't have thegonads to even try it!! Yoopermike, no sucking up, just facing the facts that trad guys are better....
, NY/Al, what I meant was once you get the confidence to do it and get proficient, it seems most never go back to compounds.

Just get you a cheap recurve sometime and start flinging arrows. Don't worry about all the details just look at the same spot and fling arrows. Concentrate on form over acuracy for a long time. The acuracy will come. Plus its just dang fun. Get some judos for your arrows and shoot at whatever you want. I shoot judos at dandylions in the back yard all the time. You can get a decent older bear recirve for under 100 so the cost is low. Get one around 40-45 and have fun.
You'll like it even if you decide not to hunt with it it will help with your compound shooting.

To me thats the best part, its just plain fun and because of that I really, really enjoy shooting my Longbow, daily!
My arrows are tuned to my Bow and the rest is up to me with very little to get in the way!

There is nothing to be envious of coming from either direction.
Each has thier pros & cons. Neither is a gurantee over the other, nor is each some mystical thing impossible to figure out.
People over complicate compounds toa RIDICULOUS extent. I also think people over simplify trad gear as well. But that said, ANY reasonable person on these forums can set up and enjoy shooting either one. From there it is a matter of how in-depth one desires to get in order to obtain a hunting level of proficiency or even well beyond that. That's all.

If you want to experience pure archery shooting joy, pick up a trad bow and fling some arrows. I grew up and learned on trad gear. I still shoot my recurve when I just want to relax and experience basic and natural archery....the way it was meant to be. I'm even planning on taking it into the woods this fall for a few hunts, something I've been reluctant to do years past.
Vabowman.......when the time is right and opportunity knocks, pick up a trad bow, you won't regret it.

The truth is, I learned how to shoot a bow with a long bow and recurve when I was 12. I was pretty goo at too!! then I stopped shooting it and started shooting the compound and that was all she wrote...

I don't think there is any trick or gift to trad shooting. Sure, you don't have to worry about your pins rattling loose or your cams being out of time, but you'll still have off days... and they're more frustrating when you know it's all you. [>:]
We have our newbie bowfishers try shooting without pins. Some think they'll never be able to hit such a small moving target through instinctive aiming but most all pick it up pretty quickly. ('cept for the aiming low thing, that's hard for a lot of people)
