Like most others, I set the top pin at 20. Seems like I rarely use the other pins. I shot one 2 seasons ago at about 28 yards from a 15' tree stand using the 20 pin and took out his heart. With the speed most of todays bows have and considering most shots are within 30 yards or less on whitetails, 1 pin will get you by. I set at 20 and 30 but can't remember using the 30. I haven't been elk hunting yet but I would definitely be dialing in some more pins for that.

Setting your pins is kind of a personal thing. This is what works for me. I set for 20 and up in 10 yd. increments. If I get a deer close I Put the 20 yd pin about 2 '' up from the bottom edge of the deer body line. I always get good hits when I do that. Remember, when they are close you are looking at the top of the deer.
If they duck at all you are in trouble of shooting over or hitting high.

So should my arrows be dead on at 20 yds and a little high at 0-17 or so and a little low at 25??
It totally depends on how your bow is set-up, and what speeds you are getting out of your set-up. I personally set my pins at 24, 32, 40, 48, 55yds. These gaps are what I find allow me the safest margin of error for a misjudged distance and still result in VENISON in my freezer. With most of my bows, LONGER axle lengths, 36, 37, and a 40, I can set a pin at 24 yds, and hold that pin right on at 5yds, and be dead-on, walk back to 10, and be 1" high, 15-17 1.5 - 2.5" high, 20 will be about 1" high, and dead on again at 24. I've heard LOTS of guys claim to shoot ONE PIN dead on out to 30-35yds, but if you look at a trajectory for a 350fps projectile (which is a speed VERY few of us will ever see out of our set-ups), you'll quickly know they are either full of it, or are somehow compensating to be shooting "Dead on." My set-ups are mid-upper 260's and low 270's speed wise, so both have a very similar trajectory, and I have set my pins exactly the same on both bows because of this. I have a 3rd bow that is an older 60# bow, and the gaps are a little wider, and I have it set at 20yds. Not likely to go to the woods with me, just a target bow for now.
