Another point that is being left out is that if you are complaining that your area doesn't have big deer, do something about it. MOTOWN mentioned passing bucks up but also try some other things such as habitat improvement and trying to convince others to do the same, it works.... Want proof? Try PA. How many years did I get blasted for saying that PA had alot of big bucks and could very well end up being a big buck state. Our PGC stepped in and forced hunters into antler restrictions which caused a huge uproar. Where are those hunters now? Alot of them are putting in their own restrictions abover the AR's now and passing on bucks they never would have. These guys are now planting food plots and realizing that if they put in the time, money, work, and dedication, they can improve the quality of the deer on their property.

Sure, location is important, everybody knows that, but if you are saying that "my land prohibts me from shooting big bucks", then improve your land to allow you to shoot bigger bucks!

WHY does this have to (when we discuss "location") always get into a "It depends on how hard you're hunting"....and "It still takes a lot of hard work and dedication" rant. No one is saying it doesn't.

The reason I say that and Kyle and others say it is that location isn't the only piece to the puzzle. There are many many more pieces! I guys gotta find the other pieces as well and learn where to put them on the puzzle! All you seem to care about GMMAT is location! You act as if you had the location you would have bookers hanging from your wall all over. Believe me, its not that easy! Didn't Greg say it took him along time to get his first big buck? Quote me if I'm wrong, I might be but I thought thats what he said.

Let that 100 incher walk and he just might come back next season a 120. Until your disiplened enough to let nice deer walk your never going to truly know what your area could yield. Sure location matters, get your damn topo out and find a new one.
You are 100% correct IFthe goal would be to kill the biggest buck possible, but that is not what this conversation was about... intially anyway.

It's hard to keep up so I am not sure where we are now.

Your right the topicis about location. This comes up every year because after season guys look over at that baby rack they took and have rack remorse. Then the only logical thing to do is to get on the internet and say " If I lived where John Doe lived by God I would have P&Y's hanging out my candy ass." There is no doubt that the midwest holds a better quality deer than alot of areas. Out of all the midwest hunters in our contest I see ONE thats in the 170 range. That dont make since when they are suppose to be behind every tree.

Well, I know that they aren't behind every tree in Ohio, but from what I have been told they are in Kansas.Of course, you prairie chickens only have about 12 trees in the whole state.

I agree 1000%

I probably will never see the potential of my area simply because as of right now, anything 120+ gets an arrow. Thats my standard, but you wont hear me on here whining how there are none bigger.

After 7 pages on this topic, I have to say I agree with most of what has been said. I know where I live in SE Pa, I can only expect to see/kill a certain size buck. I hunt public land for the most part, so much of this is out of my control. I still love the area I hunt though. Location is key, and this is why I treat myself to the Edmonton Bow Zoneeach Nov. LOCATION--LOCATION--LOCATION!

I think we have left out Pressure also and hunting habits.

In MI there were a ton big bucks in NLP 80 years ago. Location is the same, but the deer herd is not. It's getting better thou
