If there is no meat salvagable, I'm not tagging it. I'm also not taking the antlers.

If it is a buck and the yotes got to it before I did... I would tag it. Doesn't matter if it is an out of state hunt or not. Bottom line in all honesty... I chose to kill itfor what was on it's head not the meat it was packing. Since I am not limited to just one deer per year, I am rack hunting when it comes to bucks.

If I shot a doe and the yotes got it... I wouldn't tag it nor would I burnthe tag. That doesn't fill the freezer. It has nothing to do with not respecting the deer. Trust me, I would be kicking myself in the arse for blundering.

If I made bad shots on a coupledeer ina year where coyotes are getting tothem before I do or if I couldn't find them period... I would stop bowhunting and figure out what I am doing wrong before blundering more. I owe that to the deer.

If recovered, the tag goes on.

How would a person know if they killed it or the yotes killed it. I mean it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the yotes ran down a wounded deer and finished it. Also what if you wound one and yotes don't kill it but the wound gets infected and the animal eventually dies and you stumble upon it later, you tag that one too? Or you wound one and track it but never recover it, thenlater in the season you find it, tag that one too? What if you don't have a tag left for that animal, call DNR and turn yourself in? The second 2 scenarios don't really fit the out of state hunt theme, I was just wondering how others would approach those scenarios.

I'm going by the letter of the law if the law says I have to tag it then I will if I'mnot required toothen I am not burning a tag. I found no law saying I have to where I hunt but that is not to sayother states don't have them.

Absolutely, I would tag it. I shot it. Grneyemonstr has a good point. Sometimes those DNR guys surprise you.

I may be put in front of the firing squad here, but my tag would not go on it, unless I knew the DNR would replace the tag. I somewhat agree with David on this one. I kill deer for meat, and if I pay $400 for an out of state license, its gonna be for something good.
The rub is if you are killing deer for meat you won't be spending 400 bucks on an out of state tag. $400 dollars buys a lot of meat if that is your end goal. I would say most people spending that kind of money are looking for something to hang on the wall.

If you really like to hunt you can go buy meat and bunny hunt for much less. And don't tell me it's the hunt that matters and you don't care if you take a deer or not. If that were the case you could take a camera for free.
