I like shooting does when there isn't a buck under my tree. I'm with you guys on the old doe theory. Shoot them smart old girls when you can. They remember your tree and look for you every time they come through.
Plus, less does make for a better rut.

I usually shoot a few every year. Some for nuisance control in our subdivision. I love the thrill of the hunt and the feeling of accomplishment of outsmarting any deer.

I shoot doe's and enjoy hunting them.I wont take them out of area's if I feel like those area's are not holding many deer.I prefer to take them in the archery season with management tags if I have them. This archery season I was attempting to teach and introduce one of my nephews to archery hunting and I would not shoot a doe while on stand while he was with me.I had numerous opportunities to take doe's that I conceded to him.It never came together for him but archery hunting has gotten a hold of him and to me that makes it all worth while.
I feel that taking doe's is exceptional practice with archery equipment.Nerves, shot placement, trailing.I really believe with the bow especially a hunter to get a good number of kills under their belt to get really proficient.

The lions, yotes, wolves and car bumpersmanage the does in our Mountain habitats. So there is no need to kill them. We are finally starting to see some extra doe tags implemented in areas of growing populations.
I personally would love to hunt for a doe if the herd needed thinning and we were offered a seperate tag. That way it stands right now in my whitetail areas, its two "deer" tags.
I will shoot a doe like this year on the last day of Archery season to fill my tag. There are enough around, not an over abundance but enoughto take one.

we've got such an out of control doe population in our hunting are that we usually take between 20-30 doe per year on our land and only allow ourselves a few bucks (other than management bucks)...

I get as much or more satisfaction out of taking a mature doe as a yearling buck. With bowhunting, I've taken a lot more yearling bucks than does, and not because I'm passing up does. The bucks are more vulnerable than does during the fall when you're bowhunting. Any deer with a bow is a rewarding gift.
