Dan....Thats a SERIOUS grinder.

Here;s the real deal on my processing. I did it the first time I killed a deer. It took me and a buddy over 3 hours to get 'er done.....and then we cleaned up the equipment and my kitchen. It also cost me close to $20 worth of freezer vacuum bags (it was his stuff). OK.....so I'm one of the conceited ones that thinks my time is worth something.....so I decide to have the next one processed at the meat processor. It cost me $35 (+/-....actually it might have been $30) and I picked it up already in tubes and vacuum sealed bags.

Never thought about whther it was "my" deer I was eating....or anything of the sort. It's all been good.

So....suffice it to say ....I don't do my own processing, any more. The last buck I took to them.....cost $55....but he was a 200#+ buck on the hoof.....and went in their door in 2 coolers.

ANOTHER reason I utilize their services is.....I donate venison to a needy family that one of my co-workers knows. My processor found out about it.....and he donates his services to ANY deer I send to this family. They ask me every time if it's "mine" or for the family....and we're on the honor system (VERY honorable on their part). They even threw in a gift certificate for them, last Christmas.

I also do my own processing but between my very random success and my fondness for Labatts Blue I get mixed up once in a while, even then I know a meat grinder when I see one. And thats a damb nice looking meat grinder.

Just do what Dan does Jeff. Put your wife on it. You could keep hunting and enjoy a man card for life!

Jeff.....my family owns grocery stores and bought this one for grinding small amounts of meat for special customers....but they never used it so now we use it for wild game.

Very cool what the processor does by donating his services and you for donating the deer. A close friend of the family is a priest and he always knows families that need some as well.....any extra goes to them.

The real reason I process my own game is because I know how to. My father stated out as a meat cutter when he was 13....if we didn't do our own processing, he'd probably disown us. Plus I truly enjoy it.

Funny, Dan. My grandpa raised cattle, farmed and ran the stock yard and abbatoir in my hometown. I don't think he ever took a check from a "company" in his life. I've been around meat processing (when I was younger) a lot. I just choose not to do it, now.

Our processor is a good man....good family (they all work there). Heck I like going to see them!

Kudos to you guys doing it yourselves. I know it's enjoyable and gratifying.

For the record, I don't think I'm a self processing elitest. It doesn't matter how anyone processes their game, as long as it doesn't get wasted.

We always process our own. Takes a couple hours to butcher, clean and package. Mostly steaks, couple roast(jerky), However I do take some of the scrap meat to the locker for BBQ sticks/salami. My father-inlaw bought a smoker and is starting to make his own, may start going that route.

My neighbor across the creek has been butchering for a long time. Packages it and gets rid of the carcass for around 65 bucks. He stays pretty busy, but I still prefer to do it myself.

We always throw some on the grill while were working on it anyway [8D]
