Default yardage/arrow?

OK guys, here is my problem....on my browning excell i am pulling about 70#...i am shooting easton xx75 2314's with 85 grain thunderhead broadheads...from 20 - 30 yards i notice a dramiatic drop in the arrow....causing me to use a different pin. Now what i want to do is go to a lighter arrow, probably carbon, so there is less drop the farther i get out. What type of arrow should i change to, so from 0 - 30 yards i am using the same pin?

?????Dramatic drop when compared to WHAT? First off, to be honest with you... there is NO arrow that I feel will give you the 0-30 one pin you're so set on having. Yes you can go to lighter arrows and gain some speed but only within the limits of your bow. With the lighter arrow you throw in a new set of problems. The real idea is come up with a compromise you find acceptable. Lighter arrows; more bow noise, less penetration possibly, wear on your bow parts. Heavier arrow; slower, quieter, more down range penetration. You only have so many choices. I'd experiment with some carbons of moderate weight and see what you think. Some of the ICS 340s would probably do fine.(I'm guessing about your draw length... but with the 2314s you're using now that seems likely. I think you might need a heavier head... but that's my preference.

If you're "REALLY" seeing "a dramiatic drop in the arrow" I can't believe you'd be happy with the hold-over/off you'd have to do with one pin to be consistantly in the sweet spot with arrow placement. Put on 2 pins and sight them in no matter what arrow you're using.

I agree with David. To get that dramatic drop, what pin are you usisng? If you are trying to use a 20 yard pin at 30 yards then you will see that drop for sure, even if you go to carbon arrows. I shoot carbons and ACC's of similar weight. My bow is shooting 265fps and with a single pin sighted at 25 yards I still get about 3" drop at 30 yards. No bow can shoot so flat that there is no drop. You just have to learn how to sight in, how many pins you want to use, and practice accordingly. And as DM said, there are trade-ffs to all these things.

I don't feel very many bows can accomplish what you want with a hunting weight arrow ! I think you should try around a 400 grain carbon and your trajectory will improve. If that improves your confidence hunting ,then I think your headed in the right direction !

Dave said it all...I'd use at least a 125gn broadhead on that setup..depending on the length of your arrow the balance is probably a bit off due to that light a head.

Hey Cyclone,
I like that quote, "Speed thrills, quiet kills." I agree with all the guys and the advice they gave 0- 30yds with one pin maybe if you were shooting over 300fps.
