Just wondering - How far do you guys walk to your stands?

I'd say my closest that I bowhunt is 800 yards...my fruthest out in the big woods of Unit 6 is a good two mile hike into the spot I set up at. This is for whitetails. Elk we hike all day kinda like turkey hunting but on a much larger scale.

It depends greatly my primary archery stand on my private property is only about 250 yards. My other stands on average are between half and a full mile but the only I'm hunting hard the opening of gun here in TN isjust shy of 2 full miles. As much as me and my buddy walk around the mountains here in east TN I'd say hunting flatlands out west would be a cake walk. We usually walk about 5-7 miles on a squirrel hunt. This past saturday scouting locations we went justover 10 miles round trip. Finally darkness turned us back towards the truck. I can say one thing words cannot express my horrible dread of the drag out from my opening day stand. It'll take me a little while on that one. My drag for muzzleloading opener was just shy of 1 mile and it was horrible considering it was snaking back and forth to the mountain top.

Matt / PA sent me a text message this afternoon from his work where he was playing around looking at some aerial photos of where we hunted last week... Using the scale on the maps there, he determined that our morning jaunts into our spot with the climbers on our backs was 1,300 yards.

I guess there IS some kind of benefit to living in a suburban area... Small woodlots.I just looked at the aerials of my entire county, and you'd be hard pressed to find ANY area in my county where you are over a mile from the nearest roadway.

even if my stand is only 75 yards in the woods, i like to park and walk at least 1/4 mile, i have gone up to a mile, it depends on the situation.
