Where's Dan? I know he's hunting....and I'm wondering if anyone's heard from him?

What's Wash Hunter doing besides beating himself up?

Anyone heard from Atlas.....and when does the NY season start?

Is it a good idea, for me....as much as I shoot.....to replace my strings and cables every year?

You know....how awesome is it that your ENTIRE hunt can swing on ONE deer sighting? Regular old hunt......then your spirits SOAR at the sight of "A" deer. Doesn't much matter what it is.....it's a deer!I love that.

Sitting in the stand at 5:00AM, yesterday.....having my talk with the big man.....I said: "I don't even need to see deer, today....just let me see someting "cool"!" 7:25....I hear a hen putting in the distance. 7:30 I almost crapped my pants when a gobbler gobbled from the roost about 25' from me! Thanks, God[&:]

I wonder how cool it is to be the Germy, RIGHT NOW....in a tree, in KY......and know you have a shot at a 150 you just saw, yesterday???

How cool is it all the people taking their first deer, this year? Congrats, guys (and girls)!

Fawns, here, are losing their spots, quick.

I need to take an hour or so.....after 2 weeks hunting....and maintenace my equipment. De-Scent my climber/HSS vest/haul line/tether.....de-scent my boots......and adjust my climbing stirrups.

Make sure all of your flashlights are in good working order.

When's the last time you shot your BH's??

God luck to all. Have a great Sunday! I gotta check the ice on my doe!

My wife picked up some tiny bands for me to wrap around my Rage broadheads! My stands are in the woods year around and I was in all of them already good ther! Oh yea just got batteries for my Surifire light so when the time comes I can light up the blood trial.
..........The best thing about today is .....COwboys are on at 815pm! GO Dallas!

Twil.....I figured out real quick that a set of 2 lithium bateries has a run time of ONE hour. Luckily....I had backups the other night. I can't think of a more helpless feeling in hunting...than having an animal you KNOW is down....and not having sufficient light to track or search for it. That won't happen in my woods. I bought $127 worth of batteries on Wednesday.....lol.[&:]

So true about the flashlights. I shot a deer on the Eastern Shore last season during blackpowder and when i Strted rummaging through my bag I realized I didn't any back up batteries and my two "good lights" were nearly useless and I was a 45 min hike and 25 min. drive to the nearest store. I ended up trailing the deer almost 175 yards with a "hat brim" light that was far from bright, but I did have two sets of batteries for it. Nearly 4 hours of trailing bent over holding the light about 1 foot from the ground through a pine thicket bordering marsh(=wet & dark). I was very thankful to find that deer and wonder if the big guy just thought I needed some practice trailing. I was unprepared and I learned an important lesson that night but to this day that is the trailing job I am most proud of. Keep your lights right!!

I bought 3 packs of the duracells I want to try them. I always used the surefire batteries. I tell ya there a heck of a light but your right with that kind of power the batteries go quick!

Default RE: Ramblings, Axel's first dog Show.

Ramblings,

Yesterday was my Wire Haired Dachshunds first dog show. I wasn't really interested in showing him as a pompous show dog but my breeder asked me if I would bring him down and since I'm onc crutches, he'd show/handle him so I agreed. Yesterday I left the house for the 2.5 hour drive to southern PA for the show. It was actually a Teckel show, a German dog organization for all 3 lines of Dachshunds, short hair, long hair and wire hair. It was amazing to see all the little yappy dogs of all hair color, make and sizes. There was a total of 38 dogs in the show and more dogs around that were not showed. My breeder was hoping for a rating of very good to go along with Axel's tracking ability for breeding purposes.

Axel's never been show "trained" so Andy, my breeder walked him around for practice and get him in the right "gate" walking. He wasn't doing all that well, he's a tracker so he knows to keep his nose down. Axel was picked for me rather I picking Axel out of a litter of 8 because the rest of the litter went all over the US and I was "local" for Andy to see and perhaps breed Axel. Andy said Axel was choice from the litter.

Andy's former dog Dixie was there, she's Axel "mom". She usually wins or places very well. Well Andy sold Dixie to another woman that handles dogs very well and that lady, Sherry offered to show Axel.

She worked with Axel and I couldn't believe the transfermation.

Once in the ring Axle performed almost flawless and while the judge handled him he really bragged him. I was getting goose bumps as if I bred him...lol Well I am Axel's daddy.

Hoping for a "very good" rating, We were overwhelmed when Axel got the highest rating of "Excellent".

He then went back into the arena for the finals, 12 of 38 dogs got Excellents and of those 12 dogs that were finalist, Axel finished 5th beating his mother Dixie by 1. She finished 6th. We couldn't have been more pleased.

That makes Axel an "excellent" choice for STUD!....that's my boy.

And the judge from Germany:
