Default Early season morning hunts

What kind of areas do you like to use in the early season when the deer are still in their summer patterns?

I'm still debating on where to go in the morning but I haven't been able to hunt mornings this time of year that much.

What are your experiencs?

I'll be in my Oak Holler stand site come opening morning .
The acorns where falling pertty good this year so I know they'll be hitting that spot before they bed down for the day.

Some of the so-called "experts" say that you shouldn't hunt in the mornings during the early season - I can't remember why, but I don't follow that advice anyway.

I've been out 3 mornings and 1 evening so far this season. I got skunked on two of the mornings and saw 9 deer on the one evening, so . . . .

Some of the so-called "experts" say that you shouldn't hunt in the mornings during the early season
That statement right there proves that they're misnamed, "Experts". Next week as their deadline for their stories approach, these same "Experts" will be telling you you have to sit int the tree all day from sun up to sun down. When the next months deadline draws near they'll be writing an article telling you that afternoon hunts are not productive. The next month, only mid day hunts are productive. These guys all have to come up with a new twist in their stories to have some variety. Also they're all attempting to come up with something different hoping that they will be annoited "THE EXPERT".

Heck, even if the guy was sincere in making a statement like that, it may not be true in your woods or because of the way you hunt. AND, it may very well be true in your neighbors woods with the way he hunts. If you're only hunting cultivated field edges and have to run deer out walking in in the morning it would be true, morning hunts suck. If on the other hand you can circle through "Sleepy Hollow" or "Rattlesnake Swamp" and be waiting for them to come off the same field, well it just may be mornings are the best. You make your own luck and experiences, not some expert. Incidently, we hunt almost exclusively in the mornings. I wish someone had told me years ago it would be unproductive.

I try to sit about 20 yards in the woods along a field in the mornings and in the evenings right at the very edge of a field in a corner.

I set up near the place where they would go out at evenings and in between their feeding and bedding areas for mornings. My suggestion for a morning hunt would be to find where they are feeding and then try to intercept them as they come back in the mornings to bed for the day. Just my thought.

I am an expert by no means but agree with David. It depends on the situation. I have had mornings where I saw more than a dozen deer within bow range and others where I didn't even see a squirrel.

That said, I get trail cam pics at all hours of the day in our woods. Most of them are right at sunrise or right at sunset but I do get many late morning and early afternoon as well. I think the deer will move more in cover during daylight hours. Maybe that's just common sense.

Itook my first deer by bow last year at about Noon if I remember correctly on Oct. 12 Worked a half day and got a wild hair and decided to go out about half an hour before. Now I am a big believer in that any time is a good time if you've patterned the deer and know there's a 50/50 shot they'll be coming through at that time.

I Try to get out and scout before the season opens to find out what the deer are doing likesome type of food source that there using.
Then maby try to find some bedding areas and few well used trails going and comming ect..
Than decide where I want to put a few stand[&:].
