Gang,
It was the hunt of hunts...
Last night I was miserable as my wife was out and I missed any hunting opportunity. This morning, I awoke at 5:00 AM but did not head afield until 6:00 AM as I did want to carry the lights.
I walked out into the field in darkness, aided by the almost full moon. As soon as I sat down, I heard the worst howling ever, coming from the barn yard! "Some hunter must be trying to locate dogs, I figured"
All of a sudden another howl emitted and this time it was closer and actually sounded like a coyote. I turned and saw it runniing up the field in my direction. It was running parallel about 60 yds out when all of a sudden it turned and ran right to me!
I was barking to get it to stop and every time it did... I would just find it in the scope and it would run again. It kept coming to my right, so I was having a hard time making the shot. I finally got it to stop at about 40 yds and took the shot, but I was rocking in my chair as I was stretching far over my right shoulder... I MISSED
Now, it was going warp speed across the field away from me. In the waning moonlight, I picked it up in the scope and took the shot... down it went! 110 yds away!

Hey thats a great idea, I wonder if all the dogs out by you have that real dark guard hiar look. We in illinois get the dogs that tend to be more redish.... I spose you always want what you dont have at home.
