Go back and read my initial post. This thread was supposed to be about how he hunts.....and not what kind of person he is. I don't like the guy, either. It has nothing to do with how he hunts, though.

I don't find it "hard" to miss or wound the animals I hunt. I find it wrong.
As hunters it should be our passion to kill as quickly and as humanly as possible. Any thing else is unacceptable.
And to profit from incompetence makes not only Tred but fans of Tred appear as incompetent.
If you want to do it the "hard" way cut your legs off or stick a sharp stick into your shooting eye, that would make it "hard" .To purposely go out and promote the maiming and wounding of animals is as wrong as trout fishing with dynamite.

And you don't feel the two go hand in hand ?

Yeah Jeff, and look at the shining example of a legend Pete Rose will leave behind. (and the Vickster) Being good at what you do, hunting, ect. is all well and fine. It's when you crap up your image and show it to the world that it becomes an issue. I agree, the post was about his way, the Tred way. Hunting his way is just not hunting to "me".

Since when did doing things the hard way make you cool? If he was digging a pond with a spoon everyone would think he was nuts. I've seen several episodes of his show. I don't watch it much anymore, not due to his attitude or how he hunts. I prefer to watch whitetail hunting, and he does very little of that.

Is Michael Vick a good NFL quarterback?

They give you the side of people I really see. In your mind you have the ability to completely remove the worst of human traits and replace them with praise for meaningless attributes.
You continue to praise Pete Rose because he of his ball hitting ability while being completely blind to the facts that the man is a admitted criminal an abusive father and an all around butt wipe. I'm sure you can find solace in Ray Lewis and his return to the fine game of football, Helluva a guy. And of course Vick is a great quarterback in your mind.In mine he is only out of jail because of who he is and in your mind he is only in trouble because of who he is.
Your choice of admirable people and mine are vastly different.

I have nothing against Tred. I've seen his show a couple times. He only does it the hard way because he uses equipment he can't hit anything with...LOL. You can't really compare him to Fred Bear. Fred was a much better shot. My only problem with Tred is that he tells you his effective range then goes out and flings arrows all over theplanet at animals too far for him.I don't think that helps are sport very well when non hunters may be watching. I look at his show as entertainment only. But that's how I look at all thehunting shows on T.V. I would much rather (and have) hang out with Fred Eichler. His head isn't swelling up and he puts a down to earth show on T.V. He's also probably killed a lot more animals then Tred. And he did do that harder then Tred has.

I have to agree with buttonbuckmaster on this. OK, so Tred says he does it the hard way...well not exactly. To me, the hard way DOES involve a longbow. However, the hard way also involves being proficient with the longbow. The hard way involves, getting close enough to make a high percentage shot. If this means 50 unsuccessful stalks to one kill then so bit it. That's why it's called the hard way. The hard way means that you bust your a$$, you are 100% confident in your shooting ability with the equipment you use and you leave the bells and whistles of modern hunting behind. To me, Fred Bear did it the hard way...not Tred Barta. I've watched multiple shows of Barta hunting with his long bow only to see him shoot at running deer from 40 yards, try and stalk close enough to a caribou only to get sighted at over 40 yards but let an arrow go anyway and wingshoot at geese. The only one I didn't see him make a stupid shot in was when he was hunting coyotes and that's only because his guide wouldn't let him. Tred Barta is a fisherman first and foremost. "The hard way" mentality for fishing is fine. If you handline tuna on 2 pound test the fish swims away with a hook in it's mouth...worst case scenario. You don't have a caribou with an arrow sticking out of it's leg or an injured goose flying away never to be found. What I'd really like to know is how many animals were injured at the hands of Barta but never made it to the screen. There's no way someone lets that many arrows fly the way he does and doesn't wound something.
