RE: Best and worst of tred Barta
I have to agree with buttonbuckmaster on this. OK, so Tred says he does it the hard way...well not exactly. To me, the hard way DOES involve a longbow. However, the hard way also involves being proficient with the longbow. The hard way involves, getting close enough to make a high percentage shot. If this means 50 unsuccessful stalks to one kill then so bit it. That's why it's called the hard way. The hard way means that you bust your a$$, you are 100% confident in your shooting ability with the equipment you use and you leave the bells and whistles of modern hunting behind. To me, Fred Bear did it the hard way...not Tred Barta. I've watched multiple shows of Barta hunting with his long bow only to see him shoot at running deer from 40 yards, try and stalk close enough to a caribou only to get sighted at over 40 yards but let an arrow go anyway and wingshoot at geese. The only one I didn't see him make a stupid shot in was when he was hunting coyotes and that's only because his guide wouldn't let him. Tred Barta is a fisherman first and foremost. "The hard way" mentality for fishing is fine. If you handline tuna on 2 pound test the fish swims away with a hook in it's mouth...worst case scenario. You don't have a caribou with an arrow sticking out of it's leg or an injured goose flying away never to be found. What I'd really like to know is how many animals were injured at the hands of Barta but never made it to the screen. There's no way someone lets that many arrows fly the way he does and doesn't wound something.
