Long range second shot?

No.. i wouldnt shoot..im new and i wouldnt be able to hit anything that far 9 out of 10 times.. also u said if you hit the deer too far back.. yes the deer will die but if i shoot and miss the deer ( in most cases ) will start running and that will push the deer MUCH farther i'd bet.. i'd watch it and see if it beds down and let it walk away or expire in site.. if it walked away i note the direction and exact point where i lost sight of it and all of course.. if it bedded down in front of me i would wait til i KNEW it was dead or until it got dark.. if it got dark on me i would sneak out of my stand if possible and leave until the next day

As many have mentioned, if the wound is a fatal one then I'd go ahead and take the back up shot. I once center punched a Doe that ran out to 42 yards and offered another shot, which I quickly took. When the second arrow struck her she went down almost instantly!

I have taken several follow up shots up to 60yardswhen really they were not needed but the more blood the better. If the animal has been hit once ibow hunt like i rifle hunt, i shoot till its down or out of range. I have heard stories of hunters saving and arrow or bullet thinking the animal was hit good only to not recover it.

i would agree with hiawatha.....i would shot until it goes down or out of sight (out to my last pin only though)...where i hunt it is not the best for tracking at all.

I wouldn't take the second shot if the deer looked like it was going t obed down.
If the deer stops that close more than likely it is going to bed down right there or very near that area. You take the second shot and miss, or make an even worse shot on the body of the deer, that deer might haul butt out of there and you may never find it.
Follow the rules about waiting time after a shot and you'll find your prize waiting for you.

I dont know that it is a universal yes for everybody. If you practice at that distance and feel confident go for it. If the animal is standing calmly and you are not confident with the shot why risk sending them to the next county.
