For banded ducks, you call the number on the band and they collect harvest information, but ducks are migratory and this is useful to show their flight patterns. I don't see how killing this deer would help the people studying the deer.
But, he looks pretty pathetic with that big yoke on his neck. Maybe after a couple years I'd put him out of his misery.

The collar really wouldn't come into play with me. If it was a buck that I would shoot without the collar then I would shoot it with the collar. I do not shoot immature deer. If bow season rolls around and this guy is supporting some serious headgear then I wouldn't think twice... Shoot him. Just my .02. Just because the deer is in a CWD zone and has a collar on doesn't mean he is infected. If you shot a deer without a necklace you would be taking the same risk.

I don't know about shooting him, but I hope that collar is big enough if he makes to be a mature buck. Some of those 22" neck monsters might have a tight squeeze in that collar. I would hate to see it hamper him if he makes it that long.

Would I shoot? Maybe...all depends on the circumstances. If it was the bull of the woods then probably.
If it was an immature buck then no, I'd let him grow up

Yes I would, but with that being said I also would weigh the size of the antlers against do I really need to shoot this particular deer or can I pass him up for another. Record book...personal best, I’d shoot. Just another deer I would most likely wait and pass the shot.

If it was good maturebuck, little shortness of breath, adrenalin flowing, pin moving to the beat of your heart,.......yes I'd shoot it.
About 15 years ago, NJ Fish and Game radio collared an 8 point buck during 6 day firearm season in a high pressure public hunting area. During the entire week of the season he remained within 150yds of a large hunting clubhouse. One of the game wardens told me that the buck had only moved about in 100 ft. area.
To me that's pretty amazing. The area that the buck stayed for the week was so close to the clubhouse that it wasn't hunted.

Because I work at a university I would PROBABLY let it walk. I have a lot of respect for most of the students and the work they do. I would hate to think I screwed up someones thesis by shooting a deer that was involved in a study. Now if its a monster..............

Can't say I would eat it if it was in the CWD zome, but I would definitly donate it to the needy.
