Guy's I use a Red Dot Scope. Its very legal in most places except where electronics on a boware illegal. I believe that maybe the case in Idaho. In Mo my Red Dot Scope is legal and I think you may have it confused with Hollywood. In the movies, they show a lazer pointing on the target. Red Dot Scopes shine zero light on the target but back on your eye. Optics being the way they are, looks just like your painting the target with a lazer. Very legal to do in Mo.

I agree with Fieldmouse on the Red Dot sight.

But there might be some confusion here. I don't know a lot about this, but I have shot pistols with the red dot, where it is basically an electric red dot recticle (with no or 2x magnification), and I have shot the kind that actually projects a laser on the target and you aim through a scope or open sights for the laser dot. The Summit Red Dot Scope is basically an advanced electronic pin projected on glass. Is there a laser sight for bows that does project onto the target (like the hitmen use in movies?).

A laser and a red dot are two completely different sighting systems.

Red dots and the summit hot dot do not project a beam of light foward of the bow where as a laser sighting device doeswhich makes themillegal in most states.

Yes there are several. Here is one that HHA makes.

I guess the older I get, the crankier and more old school I get. I am glad that many if not most states do not allow for "electronics" when it comes to hunting.

I dont know anything about either a red dot sight or a lazer sight but while thinking about it, this hit me. No matter how fast your rig shoots, you arrow is going to drop. Correct me if im wrong, but doesnt a lazer shoot a straight line from its point of origin to the target, regardless of distance? If that is correct, how do you compensate for the distance to your target and the arrow drop?

I guess it's just like hunting with one pin. I think there are a good bit of hunters (not target guys) who use one pin. I really only use 2 pins for hunting (but have 3 pins on my sight). If you have a fast rig and only want to shoot out to 30 yards, one pin or one laser should be able to get the job done (with slight compensations for 10 yards and 30 yards).

You got it. If I took my scope off my bow, I would go to a one pin set up. It's much cleaner and easier. Just like shooting open sights on a shoot gun. You adjust for distance.

I've got plans to go with a stick bow next and no sights.
