this year i plan to do a bow make over. rest, sights, stabilizer are all on the list. i was wondering if it would be wise to keep them handy as a backup/spare type thing...or offer them to good homes at a decint price or what...

also got an OLD Bear "Bruin" bow in the garage. needs strings and cables. but i was thinking of throwing that together..putting my sights, rest, stabilizer on it and having a whole backup bow...or even get dad back into archery. all id need is arrows..heck just checked and my Epics will work fine on it..exspecially for dad and his shorter draw.

what would you guys do?? i wouldnt see more then 100$ out of it all if i sold it. probably best to keep it handy huh?? would you bother setting up the old bow as a back up? just curious..i dont know that dad would wanna use that bow or what not..but if not i could use it as a back up..never know what might happen..

I agree with the others .... It wouldn't hurt to put all your old stuff on that old " Bruin" and keep it as a back up.

I'll always have at least two.

Too many things can go wrong (it is a machine with moving parts galore) right before a big trip or opening weekend to rely on only one weapon.

thanx guys...after posting i was like DOHHH i know i should keep it..and possibly set up the ole Bruin..but either way if my new rest were to fail or sights break it would be a life saver to have them laying around. quick setup and tune and im back in action.. and its not like id be making big money from the stuff.

i think it would be neat to hook up that old Bruin. ill tell you what..that thing got a pretty smooth draw. pick me up some alumanums and a new string and that thing would be ready to go. put some limb savers and leeches from my old string on it..my old peep..then dad will take it and hed be a deer killin machine..hed tell me "Get rid of them sights they are too bright..and that peep thingy in my face..get rid of that too.." id really like to see dad get back into archery...from what OTHER people told me he was quite an archer back in the day. not sure why he quit..i know he lost his practice grounds back then..but now we got the back yard..maybe ill hook that bow up for his birthday or something this summer.

I am redoing my bow also with some newgoodies. The old stuff will be going back on my old bow so it is ready should something happen during hunting season. I'll keep practiced up with both.Time is a killer for me with harvest. I don't want to be looking for parts when I should be hunting.

I set both of my bows up with same site, similar rests, same peep, and same type nock set. Other than a mild difference in their draws, at full draw, looking through the peep, you can't tell one from the other. The older bow releases with a good bit mor handshock, but still shoots well. I actually took both out on different days this year, just depending on how I felt. I also Robinhooded arrows with both bows just 4 days apart, so they were both tuned pretty well also.
