I haven't noticed it matters. They can't see the red or the blue. The black contrast might be visible. I do use camo ones from wal-mart and they work fine. I replace them every other year. They also work well to tighten up you layered foam targets to get more use out of them and reduce pass-thru's

I get all my ratchet straps built at Granat Industries. A little cheaper and I get the right lengths and colors that I want. You can speak to Howard Granat.
I'll attach the link so you can have a look, scroll down the page and you will see the colors. Most of the 1" webbing and ratchets are about 1500 Lbs strength.

That's exactly right, Hammy. I'm not worried about the deer picking the strap off.. but years ago, I started noticing that I could visibly pick my stand out through the woods from 100 yards away or more by scanning for that thick, black horizontal stripe against the light-colored oaks I generally hung in.
It dawned on me that if they were that visible to me, they were to others out in the woods, too. I began breaking that "line" up by streaking it with gray primer after that.

I tried those camo ones from WalMart and they were not strong enough for my liking. I'v been looking for the 1 1/2 in straps but I can only find them in yellow or red. Last year I did have to use a red one. I tell you I wouldn't risk my life on one of those weak skinny Wal Mart ones.

I have painted mine black in the past as they were red and yellow. I also found that the ratchets were a bit shiney so a nice matte black took care of that. We don't really have to worry much bout people stealing stands here. I picked up some expensive straps a few years ago then discovered these cheaper ones so i thought i was gettin a good deal. None of the cheap ones made it through the second year while the first bought are goin strong still.
